Selective Load/Unload?

Is it possible to command an AI train to load/unload only a specific range of a consist?

For example, let's say I have an engine followed by 5 full container cars and then 5 full log cars. I send the train to the container port and have an "Unload" command. It pauses as each car passes the unload point. The containers disappear as expected. When the log cars go by, it still pauses, though, obviously, the logs remain. It's a waste of time to "unload" those cars and can take a lot of time in a long, mixed-consist train!

It would also be nice to be able to tell it to unload, say, boxcars 1 through 5 at this stop and 6 through 10 at that stop, etc.

Thanks!

The best way to do that is to use ProtoLars Industries where you back your cars into the IND, uncouple the ones you want to unload while you take the other cars to where you want them to unload/load.
If you set your PL IND to unload one car at a time at 60 sec. it will take 5 minutes for them to unload, the more sec, the longer it will take to unload.
The thing is that one car you want to unload/load must be centered over the IND so you need something to show you where the center is.
I use the industrial lamp post under object, built in.

Perhaps leave the 'extra' cars on either the mainline or siding while you go in and unload those you want to.

I guess when it comes to freights, it's more realistic to have to drop off and pick up cars. I'm probably going to have a yard where parts of the consist can be dropped off and then shunters to move them to where they can be unloaded.

Where I could see that kind of command being of value, however, speaking of realism, is with passenger trains. In real life, a passenger train stopping at a platform shorter than the train, will only open the cars that align and people have to move forward to those cars to get off. In the layout I'm planning and working on, I have a big city station, but don't want the same kind of long platforms at the little country stations.

Anyway, thanks for the replies...and to Euphod for removing the spam post - I didn't see it since this is the first chance I had to check on my question.
