Saving in T12

I'm new to T12 I'm finding that every time I save in Surveyor either clone or unlock, I end up with "trainz could not save with read only route, try saving under different name" Is this normal, or have I a bug? Any advice would be appreciated.

This happens sometimes.

You can try running the program as administrator, which is recommended because it's an older application. To do that you need to right-click on the short-cut and choose run as administrator from the list. To set this permanently, you right-click, choose properties then compatibility and check the box to run as administrator.

If this continues to be an issue still, try save-as and overwriting the files with the same name. That should do it.

And finally, should this still be an issue, then something else needs to be addressed, but try the two easier things first. :)

Hi,

I get that message *sometimes* in 2012. I found that if I save again, it wants to save the session. I do that, and it saves. I have checked, and all of my new work is there.

It looks like you are coming to 2012 from 2009, that did not have much layers stuff. It was hard to get used to the layers thing, and I don't know that I have done so completely. A couple of basics in case you are not familiar:

As noted in your other thread, you have to be saving a route/session that is yours, or your cloned copy of some other route

I always make sure that I am selecting the session and editing session. Then I go unlock the route once it has loaded. I don't know if this is the only/best way, but so far it works for me as I have modified and merged routes.

Good luck,
Kevin

It seems to be a common bug recently... While it could be a sign of not running as Admin, I've found that most times it does still save (or despite what it says, saves the route but not the session.) Hit save again - it will usually either tell you to save the Session again or that it doesn't need to be saved because it already is. (BTW, because of this, I've gotten into the habit of using the save command separately from allowing it to auto-ask me when exiting Surveyor... If you just Exit Surveyor and it does this, it doesn't give you the opportunity to try to save it again - this was the only time I lost work...)

I'm honestly wondering if it's something with Windows 10 maybe? I never had this problem with 7 or 8... But again, I'm not sure how accurate the warning is - sometimes it seems to be session data only, others it saves everything just fine.... Could be a time-out issue where the program is waiting for Windows to tell it the data has been handled before it continues but Windows isn't telling it so? Or Windows is timing out access to the drive before Trainz is ready? Who knows.

I see the behavior I described in Windows 7. Seems to be similar to yours - the message seems to be wrong, work is really saved.

Thanks for the info gents, I sometimes wonder if Windows 10 is part of the problem. I found out after downloading 10, that my graphics card and mother board do not support Windows 10, so cannot upgrade the latest drivers.
