Saving Changed Content

Get over it
I've saved my routes as cdp files, saved my local folder and have saved everything related to Trainz on another hard drive. I've gone into cmp and sorted a lot of items into catagories that make sense. For example: American Basswood is now in the Tree section and structures are now buildings or something that makes it easier for me to find it.

My question. After I have sorted things to my liking what do I have to backup so that next time I reload this game I don't have to go through this again? In a nutshell, I want to save all the changes I made in cmp. Thanks.

You are all set for the assets you have loaded currently on your system. If you download more stuff, you'll have to go through and create additional CDPs or recategorize things again with the new assets and then update your current CDPs.

It's kind of hard to explain. I hope this is clear.

Sorry about that StorkNest. I'm using 06. I'm thinking that if I save my local folder then everything that I have sorted should be ok. Correct?

This one has got me curious too.

I am awaiting TRS2009 but still on TRS2006 at present. I thought having also installed TRS06 on my scond pc I would copy the route over. I duly copied the Local Folder on pc 1 and put it on pc 2 replacing what was there obviously. Put a copy of the route cdp over as well. However when I went into the CMP firstly I had a cdp showing in CMP in yellow and found that it indicated over 900 items on the DLS. When you in addition actually go into the route on the 2nd pc it looks like an H bomb has hit it. Being a city tramway hundreds of scenery items aren't there, etc. Up until now I thought copying the Local Folder was it but it isn't??

HI stouthm,
Its a good idea which I tried once, problem was with me, everything I downloaded, I had to re-categorize. In the end I simply got fed up with the idea.
Something to consider.
Cheers
Pete.

I have Had this kind of fun before. My best answer is Save Your WHOLE TRS06 folder. Not just the local folder. That is what I have done before.

Then you install trainz, Do SP's then Copy your backup folder of TRS06 over your installed 06 folder. When I did this I did not have any problems.

If you want to backup Just the local folder, make sure you backup the assests.tdx file as well. Without that file you will have to Re-import everything thus loosing all that work you wanted to avoid.

CMP is based on database. The assests.tdx tell 06 and cmp what is installed and what fixes have been made to that content. If assets.tdx is lost or corupted the it is rebuilt, then fixes and changes can be lost.
So backing up assets.tdx is a good thing. When I use 06 or TC 1/2 I use Tad Monitor. See here.

Hope this helps.
Kenny:)
( oh and if you do decide to backup the entire TRS06 folder be forwarned, you will need a lot of room. My 06 folder generally is 30 to 40 gb's.)

Thanks Smash. I looked at TAD but the directions were confusing to me. I use Solway's backup utility and it's great. I saved the Auran folder (1st time) and it took about 3 hrs to save but after changing some things in CMP I saved the folder again and it took only 15 min. I then saved the asset.tdx file and it was done it seconds.

I'm feeling better about all the changes that I have made.
