Safety valves

FORMER SHUNTER
can someone please tell me why all the steam locos including those of pauls trains, and the new B1'S i have just bought constantly blow off thier safety valves,on a 40 min run they constantly blow off non stop,if this was for real the driver would have kicked the shovel out of the firemans hands by now for wasting steam and coal. All the steam locos from the s&c work fine as do lms mans locos,i have tried swapping the engine sound, the engine specs etc all to no avail,as a last resort i tried to find the sound file for safety valves i found 3 or 4 of theese and deleted them but bugger me the blasted hiss is still there.as a footnote most locos only blew off for a couple of mins and if you blew off in a station you copt for it when you got back to the depot.
if anyone has any ideas how to shorten the time the safety valves blow off or where i could find the sound files i would be very gratefull........taaaaaaaaaaa

It is Auran, not the engine makers.

Go into the enginespec config file and find under 'Steam' the settings for high and low pressure safety valves. They will have four figure numbers. Add 100 to each, 1.e. if it is 1678, make it 1778.

If you still get blowing too often, add another hundred, and so on.

On the LMS Princess someone suggested a setting of 70000! But most problems are resolved by adding the odd 100.

Best of luck, Ingha

I'm sorry, but it is an issue with the enginespec assets, and not the physics.

A correctly created Espec should not be blowing off constantly, unless you are pushing the loco beyond it's limits (E.g. it can be possible to create a fire hot enough to keep the steam generation equal with the steam usage of the safeties).

I know that a number of recent releases (e.g. the VR locomotives by billegulla for TS2009, my VR K class for TC3, and others) are relatively hard to get the safeties to blow off on, requiring quite some time to get the loco hot enough.

It should, however, be remembered that locomotives for versions prior to TC3 will not behave properly in TC3 or newer. This is due to the changes to the steam physics in TC3+.

ingha - no offence, but that's nonsense. The physics are fine, some engine-specs may not be, and some people's driving technique may not be. Also certain parameters do have to be set up correctly by the creator. Some of these can be edited by the user (ie animdist), others can't.

AB80135 - Have a look under my kuid (248163) on the DLS for some UK engine specs - you should find that they work okay in TC3-TS12

The nearest I've done for the B1 would be LMS_MAN's Black 5 spec if you have it, but be aware there are numerous and seemingly unfixable issues with bogie set-up on the B1, so it won't run properly in cab mode. I believe a replacement model is being built which will hopefully rectify these issues.

If there's any other particular specs you are after, let me know, and I'll add them to the list.

Regards,

Anthony

Going on the premise that you can do what you like on your own computer, I have made a good working 5MT (black5) that will run in cab mode in TRS2010.
I have added the 8F cab, used 'steam sound 2 cylinder' plus the 5MT enginspec, and main bogey.
It was sorely needed for the 'Jacobite'.

Hi,
Sorry to drag up an old post, but I tried the above method and it does actually work really well. I had a problem with a LBSCR terrier, Wantage Tramway 'Jane' and an SR Lord Nelson and this solved the issue in all of them. Thanks ingha!
Many thanks,

Hey all,

A suggestion I have is use boiler-heat-loss to help balance the boiler, I use values 1.06 to 1.14 with my e-specs, if you have it too high you can cause the boiler to loose pressure rapidly, if you have it low it can keep the boiler up to pressure but it won't run the safeties continuously but needs to be high enough so the boiler will only drop 10PSI from working pressure, might also want to lower burn-rate as that can also make the boiler build heat up fast I use 0.298 to 0.276, increasing the safeties max pressure makes the e-spec more powerful, like in real life for example when a boiler is 17,420lbf @ 140PSI and re-boiler to 175PSI and get 21,840lbf.

Cheers.

To Portlineparker,

If there's an issue with the Lord Nelsons that I uploaded I'd certainly like more info so that it could be corrected at source.

Can you send me a private message with details of the problem?
Chris.
