s it possible to extend trigger radius?

WIP in TANE SP2 (still waiting for final HF to be issued before I update)

I use a Bascule lift bridge kuid2:60238:27201:3 by Vulcan on a mainline section of fast track (70 mph) over a river. It is not practical to raise the track and use a normal bridge. The bridge lifts JUST in time for an approaching express. (This is most unrealistic) SO is it possible to alter the trigger radius for the bridge to raise well before the consists approaches?
Many thanks if you can advise a suitable solution.

Not sure about bridges but I know normal trigger radius is at the bottom of the trackmark tab (whether that also works on bridges I don't know).

Most animated bridges are done as Mocrossings to take advantage of code built into Trainz to operate them. This means no separate script file is needed. The slight disadvantage is they will trigger to open and close at about 80 meters from the track attachment points. This is sufficient for a real mocrossing (road crossing track) but too close for a large bridge. After all they were quite heavy and can't open in 5 seconds and still have teeth on the gears, lol.

There is supposed to be a way to add triggers and other "stuff" what will allow the bridge to be actuated at a larger distance tho I don't know how to do it. I have seen threads on this subject but that was quite some time ago.

Hopefully some kind Trainzer will chime in and give you the straight skinny.

You can use ATLS to do the job, as already said it is treated as a mocrossing. Don't connect any track to the bridge, use your normal track up to the bridge and span with invisible track. Connect the ATLS slave to the bridge track and set up controller and triggers as you would for a normal crossing.

Thanks Stagecoach, Ben and Shane.

I will attempt using the ATLS way, can that be activated for the river traffic.

Had a thought though, is it possible to un-activate the lift and just leave the bridge in the down position and ignore the river traffic?

Cheers

Depends on how the bridge is animated. You might (very carefully) try deleting the anim line in the config file and see if the bridge remains in the open or closed position. This might require tyou to change the kind line from mocrossing to perhaps buildabe or something like that. Just remember to write things down so you can re-enter those lines if it doesn't work.

Easier just copy the config and save as configbak.txt and leave it in the assets folder which is what I do when messing. Trainz / TANE will happily ignore txt files unless it's one of the required ones.

I had checked with Auran a long time ago about changing the radius on a mocrossing object, not possible as it is built in to the Trainz script. As Stagecoach mentions, ATLS can help make it more realistic.

Hi Vulcan:

I've often thought this is a parameter that should be user adjustable in the config file for kind mocrossing. Would make things a lot easier. I wouldn't think it would be a big change code-wise either.

Don't messs with the configs. Just set the slave to ROUTE 1, The controller to 2 routes and green both circles for route 1 there. The bridge will stay down all the time.
