Rulers ??

I am new to the world of Model Railroading and have a question. Hopefully I won't look like too big an idiot for asking.

I know Board and Square size. Is there a tool, or technique, available so I don't need to count the squares to determine my location within the layout?

there is a "ruler" in under the 'tools' tab in surveyor. there are also some standard incements (km, m, miles, feet, etc) rulers available for download in verious locations. The built-in one's length is adjustable and displays the length unit depending on the location chosen at the begining of creating the route.
