RRSignal's deleted content

Does anybody know what's going on with that. He's got a whole bunch of "updated" content on the DLS that appears to replace his older items, but from his comments in the descriptions it's not clear whether these are intended to actually update older content, or to remove it.

Yeah, I get that part, but I also noticed that all of the new files are much smaller than the originals. Does that mean he wants us to delete his content from our routes? I'm willing to do that, but I was wondering what was going on. I have all these obsolete items showing up to be downloaded.

I have no idea. I don't see any posts or blogs that would explain this action. Anything more is mere speculation on my part, and likely to be inflammatory were I to share it.

I guess that was my point in starting this thread. I hope he'll chime in and let us know what he's thinking.

I did one as a test. The Elementary School was replaced by a featureless cube. I assume the others will be the same. The description for Deleted - 30th Street Station reads: "Deleted, thanks to Enzo1, Deadpoolmx55, and H222, and the anti-content-creator attitude at N3V/Auran. See, contrary to popular belief, you still have control over your content even when it's uploaded to the DLS."

That would seem to be a partial confirmation of my impression.

I would point out, if it's being read, that the only ones being "harmed" by this are the users - the Trainzers who don't make content and just want to run route x only to find a landscape of cubes.

N3V already has the asset and the uploader's consent, if they want to use it, they will.

So apparently he does want everyone to stop using his content. Fair enough, I guess. But it would have at least been polite to say so, and maybe tell us why.

Now I just see him as the petulant 5 year-old who's going to take his toys and go home so nobody else can play with them.

I don't think RRsignal had anything to do with this. There have been a lot of stuff I did, and several others (namely Deane [Dinorius_Redundicus] and Bill [Willem2]) that have mysteriously been UPDATED with updated kuids appearing on the DLS that WE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH. (see this thread here)

I don't know what's going on. I noticed that yesterday, a lot of new Updated stuff suddenly appeared.

Maybe someone from NV3 will clue us in.

I hate to sound paranoid, but could it be one of the hackers like we had before from Eastern Europe (not to name users) who has been after N3V and the rest of us since we called them out on piracy before?

To those who had seen the now seemingly vanished thread or maybe removed posts and relate it to the new description in the assets it would seem fairly obvious this isn't any hacking attempt. The other updates probably relate to SP1 as they are identical to the originals except for removal of certain tags in the config.

They've also gained descriptions in other languages including Japanese

I'm just a bit paranoid since the last issue we had.

I'm lucky with RRSignal's stuff. I hadn't installed anything I had downloaded yet, and a lot of the models I hadn't downloaded because they weren't suitable for my routes.

I don't think RRsignal had anything to do with this.

If it is a hack, that person also took the time to update RRsignal's location into "United States of America, DLS Deleter".
He has not been on the forum the last 3 days, so maybe he really got pissed and left.

Anyway, I would not be surprised that when N3V notices this, RRSignal will get a DLS ban and his assets will be updated/restored to the pre-"delete" version.

Curious how and when we will read anything from N3V on this topic.

Two buildings in Clinchfield is all that's affected here, I haven't used anything in my route although I had found a place for his row houses which would have been nearly to prototype, have to roll my own, done most of the other buildings anyway. It's probably mainly US route builders who are going to suffer for something not of their doing.

The same here as well. I was working on a new transit route where is row houses and the like would have been perfect for the job. I'll have to make some expensive trips to Boston and take some pictures.

There is no point in deleting anyone's content, once you have it you can do whatever you wish.

Some object to seeing screenshots with removed content, others don't.

Of course you cannot violate a request prohibiting re-distribution.

First off, this content is not involved in the recent repaired content uploads.

Second, it appears that this may be linked to recent events which resulted in RRSignal being banned on the forums temporarily.

I will be passing this on to the Trainz team for them to investigate. It may, however, be a few days till this is resolved, due to the Easter break.

However, please keep in mind that the DLS EULA does not allow you to delete content (and we will not permit anyone to purposefully break their content instead of actually deleting it, such as in this case). Content will only be deleted at our discretion, and will not be deleted purely because a creator is unhappy with us, or the community, etc. This in the end only hurts the community, which we will not allow.
