Roy almost killed by giant killerbees

We have smaller versions of hornets called wasps, they can be little horrors, but they very rarely attack in numbers, they get cheesed off at the slightest thing, and then just sting for the fun of it.

I wish this was accurate, but as someone that very nearly died (my breathing ceased just as we pulled up at the hospital after a 40 minute car journey) when I was 14 from being stung 20+ times, I assure you that they DO attack in numbers, it's not very rare either.

I've seen hornets on the north yorkshire moors, so we do get them, even up north, smaller breeds than the southern US sees of course.

The worst wasps that I ran into in the US were parasitic wasps, they'd make my arm swell up and be in intense agony for a few weeks. They seemed to indiscriminately bite/sting too.

Even hornet stings and brown recluse bites were something I preferred over those. (Yes, I lived in pretty rural places in the US, so saw lots of their obnoxious wildlife - including dozens of copperheads, although the large rat snakes scared me more, despite being harmless. Once had a 9 foot gator on our street that the animal control people had to come out and shoot, too)

I have again spoken to Ning on the phone and I'm happy to say it looks as though Roy is out of the woods. The good news is Ning had the nest removed and destroyed so as not to happen again.

A speedy recovery Roy and I'll try to make it over to your house during my New Years break from teaching at school. I need some pointers on route building ;)

Roy,

I hope your recovery happens quickly. Hornets are nasty critters because unlike bees they can sting more than once. A friend of mine's dad ended up in the hospital during the summer because of hornets. He was stung so much he almost had a heart attack.

I can't believe this. I just heard the news today. I was somewhat troubled because we hadn't heard from Roy for a while.

I wish you both the very best...

I'm confident we'll be hearing from Roy soon. I've seen many excuses on these forums for failing to continue or finish a project; but being stung by killer bees has not been among them!

Good morning fellow trainzer dear friends!

Good morning from a cold and sunny NE Thailand where life without killerbees to close is most charming:eek:
Just let everyone know I survived both the stings and antibiotics so whatever allowed me to finish my job here I am most lucky to write again.
My fingers arms body neck still has traces of the attack and when writing fingers still feel strange but I work my way thru it with ning and Djoetje my muntjac deer on my site 24/7:hehe:

I will answer and thank everyone separate in this thread for the most warm unexpected support and makes this Forum a great place to hang out (some time)

many thanks again and have a great day

Roy n Ning n Djoetje:cool:

Ah, welcome back friend! Although you've made my prediction come true, I admit to becoming a bit worried. No news is not good news when someone is ill. I can't imagine the horror you've endured, and I give you much credit for doing so. Who knows what would have happened to a lesser man?

Good to hear from you Roy, great news that the effects from the attack are gone or going even if slowly.

Take care.

Hi Ed thanks for your support most appreciated.
When people from the village came to our place the beehive contained not a few hundred but thousands of these 1.5 2 inch (2-4cm) beautiful creatures.
Here a funny story on the side: i was the one and only who complained to Ning and people work here on our premises for maintenance to get that hive destroyed as it was right next to the garage and entrance of the main building in a big umbrella tree. Most beautiful to see how the build and not aggressive to us the dogs barking.... until ...:o
All said mai pen rai or whatever it's ok no problem etc.
I hear that every day on any question/warning or say something:confused:
So I was the only one concerned and nobody listen to me expect the bees the did and probably helped me a little bit to prove i was not some stupid falang panicking on what:'(

No really they would not attack unless at the " end " of the beehive before they move on to build a new one they become aggressive amoung themselves in the hive and have a lot of newborns and cramped in the hive they harass any moving object a little bit nearby which I was the lucky one that moment.

So the moral of the story is : do not complain, warn or talk different than the flock as you will be spelled by your own thoughts and it gets only back to you. Live and don't care like in the real world..mai pen rai:p

enough Ed back to answer the other people in this thread.

Roy

morning here noon over there i know...
An old fart like me seems not easy to get on his knees right? the poison is not gone yet but I think the bee poison mingles with my immune system and makes it even stronger than before. the buddha monk says now I am easily making 120 years of age and still climb the mountains in our backyard:hehe: 56 more to go and why not if quality good no problem.

thanks for the posts!

thanks John for the good wishes and yes now I have been there too and can talk about it afterwards and these hornets asian giant ones are huges and beautiful just check the hive and activity if they are agitated or just regular traffic in and out and repairing/building the hive like they did for month.

Roy;)

Roy;)

Roy
It really is great to see you back. I can't imagine what horror and pain that you've had to endure, but rest assured, all of here on the forums have had you in our thoughts and prayers. Miracles do happen.

Welcome back

Mike

Hi Rob Ning is my wife which makes me well known

Oh, I see now, Roy is Joosten. Then Ning must be his wife/partner/friend/relative and posting on his (Roy) behalf. Thanks for the clarification.

Rob.

Thanks Rob for the inquiry and Ed for helping out.:)

You have a great day

Nikkia like your gator story

Thanks for posting and taking time to clarify things.
the critters here are huge 3-4cm so imagine the toxin from one sting is a multiple of regular ones and I got a few double bites as the whole looked huge for a bee sting and blood running from hit after the attack but the stuff is not only poison but can be turned into positive serum for the immune system.

When i lived in the GA and we played golf on Daufuskie island golf course Melrose our rertreat that time we had plenty of gators and big ones at times too and hitting a ball close to the water was for ladies only. that's why the ladies tees are always way in front of the mens:hehe: :hehe: an gators only gaze at the girls not the boys:p
