Routes included in Train Simulator 12

Hi all, a little confused for a change :)

TS12 says it has 8 new routes, but does it also have the routes included in TS2010 (and previous editions) or would I have to buy TS2010 to get those routes for TS12?

Many thanks

Phil

2012 only has new routes none of the old stuff. So yes you'd need 2010, which you can actually add to TS12 by copying the ja files from builtin folder to builtin folder in TS12 and adding the serial number, that's the only way you would get the 2010 routes. I think TS12 would be far too large if it included all of 2010, its pretty big file size as it is.

Didnt they put the content from 2010 on the DLS when they introduced 12? Else we would have loads of missing dependencies if people upload routes they made in 2010.
Or was that all the assets except for the routes+sessions?

Dependencies from 2010 are on the DLS but not the routes and some assets specific to 2010.

Thanks

Would be nice if they sold just the 2010 routes as a download pack so that I didn't have to download and install the entire program to get the ja files.

Is it purely a size thing or is it also licensing, ie you have to own ts2010 to use those routes, not just to do with size, but a deliberate business decision (I cant copy them off someone else who owns it).

As for it being too big, that is debatable. A few other downloads I've done recently, Portal 2 around 10GFB, SWTOR between 15 and 20GB (and both have been downloaded in their hundreds of thousands), sure it takes a bit if time, but I would be happy.

I'm not complaining even if it sounds like it :)

Unfortunately the ja files are massive, roughly 7 GB uncompressed so you wouldn't actually save much on downloading them, as the rest of the files come to around 200mb.
And is also likely to be a licensing thing as well, put the 2010 routes on the DLS and people will be able to download them for free who haven't paid for them, probably not a good business move and likely to enrage those who bought 2010. ;o)

Selling the actual routes on a CD would may have been a good idea though, as they would be considerably smaller than the ja files I suspect as probably a lot of the dependencies would already be in TS12. Probably too late now though, as I expect N3V will be looking towards the next version.

Makes sense. I have no problems buying it, already have :) Just I don't like installing stuff unnecessarily, it was more not wanting to do the install than the purchase.

I presume it works fine along side TS12?

Thanks

Yes, never had any problems with 2010 co-existing with TC3, 2009 and TS12 other than making sure patches go to the right version and the installers don't try to overwrite another version.
