Route in Surveyer but not Driver

I am not sure if this is the right place for this question or if it has previously been answered.
I have 2006 version of Trainz. I have tried to download a couple of routes through Download Helper. I have noticed in CMP that they have faulty dependancies. When I look into why they are faulty I see that they are items made for later version eg. 2009. I can get the route to show up on the Surveyor list where I can edit. From there I can test it and have it work after saving it. However when I go to Driver it is not on the list.

I am guessing it is due to faulty dependancies. Is there any way I can get around the problem or fix it.

If the route uses assets for later versions then the route itself must have been created in a later version and therefore will not show up in-game...

If the dependencies are for a later version, you will need to purchase and register the version required.

Versions:
2.7/2.8 - Trainz Classics
2.9/3.0? - TS2009
3.1/3.2/3.3 - TS2010/TS2009 SP4
3.4 - TS2010 multiplayer
3.5 - TS12

Shane

EDIT: Thankyou H222(Jamie), for the version clarification.

The Routes in question are all designed for TRS2004 I have TRS2006.

Yet a couple of the dependencies are Trainz Classics 1 & 2.

What is the point designing a route for an early version that can not be used for that version? Is this some ploy to force us into spending more money and upgrading?

Wait a second. This could just be a case of having a route but not creating a session to drive a train on. If you don't put down a train, then you won't see the route at all in Driver. You must have something to drive.

So just create a consist in Surveyor and, when you save the route you will be asked to save the Session also. Then, when you go to Driver it will be there.

You can run a TRS04 route in TRS06 or TC. This is 'forwards compatibility' and pretty much any route/asset can be used in a later version.

You cannot however use a TRS06 or TC route or asset in TRS04. This is 'backward compatibility' and was never a part of Trainz. You can't use a route/asset in an earlier version - the creators of the sim want you to buy the new version!

What is confusing is that you appear to have a TC asset in a route built in TRS04. What I suspect has happened is that the route creator has 'backdated' a TC asset for personal use in TRS04. This is do-able. The problem is that when 3rd party users (you) download the route the asset will not appear in the route.

'Backdating' is frowned upon by the makers of the sim but is not uncommon. The simple fix is to try changing the value of the 'Trainzbuild' tag in the asset's config.txt file to 2.6 (or was it 2.5?) for TRS06. Sometimes the 'easy fix' works, but more often some degree of 'backwards engineering' is also required...

Changing config file sounds easy enough. However where do i access the config file for particular assets?

Hmmm.. Backwards engineering... Sounds a bit beyond my scope at this time. It is something I was looking at doing more in the future.

Although there was a lack of caffeine I still understood where you were coming from ;)

...where do i access the config file for particular assets?

Content Manager > locate the asset > click to highlight > Ctrl+Shift+E > Double click config.txt in the pop-up window that just appeared > Locate the 'trainzbuild' line and edit the value to 2.5 > save > close all windows except CM > the asset should still be highlighted > Ctrl+M

If the asset is no longer highlighted after editing it will be in the 'Open For Edit' tab - highlight it there and Ctrl+M

That trainzbuild 2.5 - blowed if I can remember whether TRS06 was 2.5 or 2.6, you might need to fiddle!

With just a little luck the asset now appears in TRS06. If it doesn't then more extensive 'backwards engineering' is required....

Been a while since I did anything with TRS06 but if my mind hasn't gone altogether the trainzbuild 2.5 was original first release and 2.6 was TRS06 SP1. Just what the diffeences were I haven't a clue though :(

I think I tried both 2.5 and 2.6. One of them worked anyway. Can't remember which.

Thanks Dermmy for your help. very much appreciated.

There is a bug in the DLS system now that allows older versions of Trainz to download newer versions of assets if they are available. That is why you got newer versions of some assets. The normal fix is to download the correct older version by hand through the DLS web page interface.

I hadn't thought of that! And I doubt if it is truly a bug. A simple fix left unfixed which makes using older versions frustrating and encourages the purchase of newer versions is more likely to be a 'feature'...

I think I tried that and still had problems. But then I am not sure if I deleted the newer version before putting old one in.

I know it was really frustrating me and can't rightly remember exactly what I done.

This is how we learn though, through experience and mistakes :)

Once again, thanks for all the help.

Well..., you might be right. I assumed it might be a bug because I thought I remembered the DLS wouldn't allow a user to download content for a version he/she didn't have registered to their username. Either way it can be a right pain in the arse. I ran into it using TC3 to grab a new route and it grabbed several assets that TC3 flagged as faulty mostly due to the trainz build being greater than the correct build for TC3. I found the older assets by hand through the web interface and downloaded them to my desktop. After deleting the faulty versions, I installed the older ones and all is fine now.
