Rotary Dump

HELP!!! Can somebody tell me why my Gilpin Ore Rotary will not do anything. I read the read me txt and followed the instructions. It won't ring a bell, blow a horn, close the doors, or rotate the barrel. It does nothing and it's frustrating and games are not supposed to be frustrating.

Help Somebody!!! Am I the only one to have this problem? The Kuid is Kuid<2:210518:300573:1>. This is a GREAT looking asset and I have seen it run in a Youtube video. I do not know what is wrong.....

As I thought, it was made by the late Ben Dorsey, therefore there should be a "readme" file (as Ben was good about putting these with complex assets). Do open up the asset in CM (Open... Show in Explorer... in the context menu when you right click on it) and peruse the "readme", then simply "revert" the asset when you are done. As I recall you have to spot the car in the unloader by itself and then it should work. Of course as always check the little dumb things first, like are you using the right product on the cars. Hope this helps... [EDIT] well, should've read it twice.... you did follow the readme.... now I feel bad. :(

Okay... dropped it on a "testboard" route, found cars that supported the Gilpin Gold Ore product (I had to add it in the session editor), and reread the 'readme' file. It worked for me (TRS2019, build 117009), you do have to back out of the drum (you don't have to uncouple, the script does it) but it worked fine, provided I reasonably centered the car to be unloaded.

One of the best things you can do if you have an issue like this is to make a test route and put in the bare minimum for the asset and try it there using the KISS principle. For instance, with this one, in "create route" I would place the Rotary dump on the map and connect 200-300m of track on either side, and make sure the track on each side was level, then in "create session" I would find a few cars that support the product (that can be a pain) and hook them to my favorite engine [b/c I'm used to it], load the cars, save and run the session with "quick drive" to practice with it.

If you still have issues with it all alone on a route, try deleting and redownloading it, in case of a corrupted file somewhere. As I recall it is a fairly old asset, but it should still work...

Thanks for the reply. I have tried to put a loaded car in the tube and had to uncouple the car but it still would do nothing. unfortunately to redownload I must go to the Library and that is a hole other story.
I will repost when I redownload the replacement asset. Thanks again I am feeling like I'm on an island.

Do check that you have all the dependencies and such...
Also, what version of Trainz are you running? It makes a difference when trying to figure this stuff out.
It should uncouple automatically... hmm... definitely check the dependencies.
I would look into getting AssetX and some of the other tools from PEVsoft (https://trainz.shaneturner.co.uk/tutorials/index.php/home/utilities/pevsoft-trainz-tools), they can be helpful in some of the more advanced trouble shooting and light repair of older assets. While Auran/NV3 has made great efforts to retain backwards compatibility across the versions (it's a 20+ year old program) sometimes stuff has issues when it gets too old. Most of us have learned to do a bit of tinkering with the assets as a result. I think the most notorious problem was with the steam e-specs around TC-3 (2.7) or so... we basically had to redo all the steam engine e-specs.

Well I went back to DLS found a rotary dump asset that works great so no problem. thanks for the info about pervsoft I will mess with around with it. You've been a great help! Thanks much.

Well... it can be intimidating to pry into the 'innards' of the game, but so worth learning. I have had a good dozen 'test' routes over the years (4 right now) and they are great for learning how things work. It is sometimes fun to just get things working and then fiddle with them (and test the results). The AssetX tool is great, a tad clunky in places, but well worth getting. There is a great deal of content being updated but that quantity pales in comparison to what is out there. I've learned how to fix assets and how to modify things to my liking, it is a change of pace to work on assets rather than 'playing' Trainz.

Save often, keep an original copy, take notes/make a record, have fun.
