Right Of Way GPS unit?

Anyone know of a good GPS unit for train chasing (or track chasing). I'm trying to follow track (active or defunct) as I drive, hike, or bike in my region mainly for exploration. I have a Garmin that shows no rail lines. My Magellan does but only active modern lines. Just wondering.

The accuracy of that sort of thing tends to be a mixed bag. I've found that a lot of maps will leave out entire railyards while including sidings/spurs that were ripped up years ago, and sometimes even show tracks where there never were any.

My Tom-Tom does show rail lines. A couple of years ago my friend's Germin showed them too. Don't know any dedicated to rail lines though.

Have a look at OpenStreetMap it has a lot of odd things in it and there are tools to generate Garmin maps from it. Download the area locally then have a look with JOSM somethings aren't rendered on the web tiles.
