Reviews For Simulator 12

But what question I am raising is : Will TS12 play with excellent framerates on a "BigBox Store" 1GB Dedicated Graphics card Laptop ?

Such as this: http://www.walmart.com/ip/HP-17.3-640GB-dv7-3079wm/12347230
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 with up to 2815MB total available graphics memory, 1024MB dedicated

Everyone knows that you can rip out the guts of a PC, and replace the 300W Power Supply with a 1.21Gigawattz Power Supply, and put in a Nitrogen Cooled CPU, and install a 4 fan cooled Video Card that has "Back to the Future" Flux Capacitor ... or go out and buy a $3500 Alienware Laptop.

But what does it take to play TS12 on a Laptop ?

Peas and Crackers ... TRS2006 plays very well on my GF's 2Gb Toshiba Satellite P-105 laptop that has an POS Intel Open GL Factory Graphics Card.

And if it is recommended that a 256Mb Video Card will run TS12 ... Why does the average user need a $3500 Alienware Laptop to run TS12 ?

Cascaderailroad, why would it not.
The hardware is there, just configured differently.

Onboard versus PCI Inteface will have some effect, but it will still run effectively.

Now is that all default content because I notice the guy on the right looks animated as if he is smoking and something else.

The locos are default content, but the route is EK3, so nothing there that isn't available for TS2010, although of course it benefits from the new speed trees and the enhanced in-cab draw distance.

who is right here Zato or you, I hope you but doubt

Zato just confirmed in thread Draw distance ....... that there is no chance whatsoever in draw distance in cab!

Can you give more detail what enhancement you saw you mentioned here??
Very interesting if true pls advice.

;)

Dear Roy, please, by no means I want to be right, I want to be wrong... That was my impression from the cab... I didn't take out the measuring tool to check it was 2000 or 2000.50 metres.

The actual post is this... Judge by yourselves or just wait to check it on your own TR12's.

I also know how cab view works in TS2010. And I want to be proved wrong... :D Please, prove me wrong... the wronger the better for TS12 and for us trainzers. And anyway, I typed there that I didn't need more drawing distance from the cab... The only super sighting hero is the cartoon one on my banner...

The probably wrong side of Alberte , and Nikki's being right...

First thing first my computer spec

Windows 7 ultimate 64bit

Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD7 Motherboard
CPU I7 930 STANDARD 2.8 GHZ Overclocked to 3.6GHZ
RAM 12 GIG Corsair dominator 1600 standard Overclocked to 1800
2 x Nvidia GTX 580
power supply Silverstone 1200
Coolermaster full tower

I do not wish to be misleading in anyway

Trainz Simulator 12 took 2 hours to download and then 40 minutes to have my first view of it running as a new installed game without any problems at all.

I found most all of the built in route but for one to run smoothly,
the route
Mojave Sub Division caused my computer to shut down while loading the route 5 times and needing a database repair after each shutdown.

The rest of this i deleted because it is to premature to state anything about it yet.

What I mean is, in TS2010 on EK3, you'd round a corner and the distant landscape would be there, but as you move closer, the trees would slowly fill in, due to the draw distance (this is with the slider on max 5km), out of cab, the trees would draw in *nearly instantly* (there was a slight slowness to it, it'd take maybe 2 seconds to fill a hillside in an external view).

In TS12 however, you round the corner and the hill is there, filled with trees, looking fantastic.

Now, part of that might be that TS12 is using speedtrees* (and nicer than TS2010 speedtrees, they've learnt from the community on this) for near-as-I-can-tell all of the distant trees, but it certainly seems to have a draw distance that is further, as there is not the culling of trees that are in view, but just beyond a certain range.

* Now, I'm aware when I say that it's 'using speedtrees' for distant objects, that it is probably using speedtree's ability to generate 'distant imposters', so what we're seeing isn't technically any different from what we saw before, except that speedtree 'distant imposters' don't have alphablending issues, and retain a consistant look to the close-up speedtrees.
