Returning

Trainz Baggage Handler
Hi folks, its been such a long time since I was last doing stuff for the Trainz community. It is strange, I look down just a couple of posts and see my name mentioned. Some of you folks must have extremely long memories and I am honoured to see that my models are still remembered!

Now that I have a lot of time on my hands (long term disability and out of work), I would like to get back into modelling and making them available. The question I would like to ask is this:

I still have TRS2004 and UTC, but that is about it. I cant really afford to get the latest version as I barely have enough cash for food these days. Would I really need to get the latest version to be able to model and test? I know that the older models were compatible, but I would imagine that the animation side is more complex now and you do much more with scripting. I have to admit the latest and greatest looks awesome and there have been many improvements.

I cant imagine how how the road system works now. I spent ages getting One Way roads working in UTC :o

I believe I still have all my original models on a CD somewhere

So your thoughts please?

Many thanks

Kess

If you intend to upload your content to the Download Station, you will need to use trainz-build 2.8 or higher (2.8 is Trainz Classics 3)

Welcome back! :)

You can still create content for the older versions, but as Shane said, the content would need to be for Trainz Classics 3 or later for you to upload it to the DLS. However, you can still upload content for Trainz versions as far back as UTC to the TrainzProRoutes Download Depot. I am sure that many of the remaining users who still use TRS2004, etc., would appreciate any new content that you may make for it. ;)

Regards,

Retro.

Welcome back.

As for the newer versions, not really. I mean, it would be ideal if you had a newer version - you can get TS2010 for $23.99AUS with a discount voucher. That said, I understand times are tough.

Frankly, there are a lot of folks here who would love TRS2004 more content, and making it for TRS2004 doesn't prevent it from being valuable in later versions of Trainz. There are only a few things of which you need to be aware. First, you probably won't be able to host them on the DLS. However, there is are plenty of third-party sites, and you may even be able to host on the DLS if you really want to by just specifying a minimum Trainz-build of 2.8. Second, error-checking is stricter now with everything, things TRS2004 might have let slide, newer versions will not. However, that's generally easy to reconcile.

Basically, when you make something, make it without errors or it will not be accepted. Simples.
Not so simple as TRS2004 won't tell you there are errors. Trainz Objectz is also not that good at spotting errors. You really need to have somebody check the assets in TS2009/10 or 12, but you can keep the trainz-build at 2.4 (you can't upload to the DLS then).

Welcome back Kessica, it's great to see you returning. I hope we can all help you sort through the changes in Trainz and then see some more of your great work.

Sooner or later they all come crawling back, sniffling their pathetic excuses and expecting us to welcome them with open arms and help them get up to date with the latest features...

...and that's exactly what happens!:hehe:

Welcome back, we all need a break from time to time, (I took one and came back myself), it invigorates the soul.

Welcome back kessica.
There must be some well heeled trainzers out there with unopened or registered copies of 10 or 12. Perhaps a gift would be in order here? Then you could make assets for both. I don't have a unused copy or I would send it.

Wow! So many names still here that know and remember well!

Well I have been thinking hard and debating in my sleep. I think I really need to create models that can be checked and will work with as many versions as possible, so I guess that will mean getting the latest and greatest.

Ive been playing with gmax and animations as I have written my own 3D engine and using the Trainz exporter to get the objects out and into a recognizable format.

The exchange rate from AUS to GBP is OK at the moment so Ill be ordering a copy very soon

Ill try and get some traffic lights working correctly as the first project. Test it with I think the new roads system? Would be so good to see traffic stopping when its supposed to.

Many thanks for the warm welcome and support :D
