Repair my content or you may lose it!?

As part of our continuing effort to improve the Trainz user experience we have performed an error checking parse over every asset on the Download Station. During this parse we have identified several of your assets as requiring repair. These assets are as follows:

<KUID:36638:26010> - canaltug1
<KUID:36638:10047> - gaffrig 1
<KUID:36638:10018> - towpath200m
<KUID:36638:26006> - narrowboat8
<KUID:36638:26013> - woodbt1
<KUID:36638:10000> - dock quay 10m
<KUID:36638:10001> - dock quay 50m
<KUID:36638:27021> - lifeboatstn1
<KUID:36638:26012> - barge1
<KUID:36638:50002> - Dummy Bogey

In order to improve the Trainz experience for all players we are endeavoring to repair or remove all faulty content on the Download Station. As such we would greatly appreciate it if you are able to upload repaired versions of these assets. Repaired assets can be uploaded via the standard asset upload process in Content Manager or via the Auran website.
If you are unable to repair the assets yourself we will be allowing the community the opportunity to provide fixed versions. The faulty assets listed above will be made publicly available for repair 8 weeks from the date this email was sent. If you wish to provide your own repaired version please do so by this time.

For full details about this important process, please visit the Trainz wiki here:

I have enclosed an extract from the email above.

I no longer use Trainz. I no longer have a version of Trainz. I no longer use or have a copy of gmax. I no longer have any of the original meshes I made.
So if anybody wishes to repair or upload ANY! of my content it is up to them, otherwise by the way the email reads it will end up deleted?

I have no idea if appropriate to post the details here but again just delete or remove the post if preferred.

The dummy bogey was just a few lines of text I think but no idea now as so long ago so you can forget that one.?

Barry

Of course if they ever make Tranzsportation (going back 8 years) and bring the canal world and docks alive of Liverpool c1800 and the Ellesmere Port Canal Complex, then of course you can count me in, as Trainz has a fine scenery designer which is wasted on just using it for trains.

But you can do that with TS2010 (or any version of Trainz), simply build your canals & scenery (the assets are there to do it) as a route, no need to put any trains in it, so why do we need another sim. :D

Obviously I know!!! Refer to my content and 12 or so routes including MARITIME, that may still remain on the download station after 8 weeks. Refer to the email extract. Please note this post is for the benefit of others NOT for me! What happens to my content can be of no further interest to me if you read my post! B

I can handle the repairs without a problem, the issue would be updating them under your kuid, perhaps helpdesk can assist there. Anyone know of a process?

Thanks John

Repair my content or you may loose it!?

I tried to alter the heading on the previous thread Do you wish to repair my content. However I think this heading is more accurate as far as I understand it. Refer to the email I received about repairing/removing content. I don't wish to repeat my previous post but basically I don't use Trainz or have a copy and content either needs to be repaired or as far I can understand will be removed eventually. It does not concern me as no longer have or use Trainz but if you wish to use all my content see my other post and the extract from the email. Barry

Hello John I had to post another thread as the email seems to read either repair content or you may lose it. More a demand than a request but not a demand from me. Not my concern now though so leave it with others to ponder over. Just my good deed for the day. Barry

John,

From the extract above, it appears that if the assets haven't been fixed by their owner within 8 weeks, N3V will open the process to allow other people to fix them.

There was a link I think to the wiki with more about it but deleted the email as not relevant for me as i explained. But others probably have similar emails so perhaps they can add the link. B

There's no reason I can see why he couldn't upload them himself. His banner shows TC3 which is a version that is supported for the DLS, and someone could just email him the CDPs and he could upload them from the webpage, it doesn't need an installed copy of trainz or any of the other tools he says he doesn't have, just a PC.

He couldn't verify the CDPs himself, but if he trusts the person who repairs them for him, I don't see why that should be a major issue. And I'm sure there are lots of people in the community, including yourself, that could be trusted by most/all of us for such a task.

Edit:

Although I've just thought, it's probably not possible to force CM to export a CDP with a KUID that doesn't belong to your established account credentials, so he'd have to REALLY trust someone and give them his login details (at least temporarily) so they could export the CDPs with the right KUIDs. Or get Auran involved...

I read somewhere that if you include the kuid in the obsolete table of your new asset then Trainz will pick this up in place of the original. I'm not sure if it works in practise though as I haven't had a chance to try this out.

Hitherto it has not been possible to upload an item that obsoletes someone elses content. I guess that might be changed in the future, but hmmmm.....

I found the wikki page so that completes my input on this matter

http://online.ts2009.com/mediaWiki/index.php5/Download_Station_Cleanup

Apparently after 8 weeks they are listed for people to repair then if they remain listed for a while they may be removed or similar wording.....

Nikki you got it wrong it will be up to YOU! to repair the faulty content, not me, or somebody else, if you or they wish to of course.

I only visit trainz now for light reading and possible Blender news or any other useful non train info. My active interest in Trainz finished a good while ago now.

Hello Barry

That's a pity, that you have left Trainz. I remember vividly, that the first posts I've read in the Trainz' Forum almost ten years ago have been yours of boating in Trainz. I was very fascinated. :)

I see a problem, if someone is repairing and uploading content from another creator. The maps with the old contend can no longer be used, unless Auran is changeing the uploading-process in that way, that they can itself upload content from other creators. In that way, it would be possible, that someone is repearing the content and Auran would upload it, if the creator has given his ok.

Just my 2cents.

Regards

Swordfish

Hi "Swordfish" good few years have moved on since the early days and been retired a few years now. Novelty with dealing with ever changing configurations and functions, no longer appeals.

It was complicated enough trying to make content with gmax without juggling with ever changing configurations which used to take me longer than making the content, and were not needed for the type of routes I made.

Still using Blender and especially it's Game Engine so can remake any content I used to have or whatever I want, and get some boats moving in the Blender game Engine if I wish as animations over several miles.

A script I found can make the terrain up to about 12 miles in blender using satellite srtm2 data so that will do for my current interests of c1800 Liverpool and Ellesmere Port etc and canals, unless another simulator turns up in the near future other than Virtual Sailor suitable for moving boats, preferably floating and that can move.

Thanks

Barry

That's exactly correct. We are gradually emailing the original creators of known faulty content on the Download Station to first give them ample time to perform any repairs themselves.

After the 8 weeks have elapsed we will make the public listing available so that anyone can repair these assets. The deletion of assets from the Download Station will be an absolute last resort, and will hopefully remain a rare case.

Hi Barry,

Thankyou for the feedback on this process, it's comforting to know the emails made it out there ;)

As mentioned in the other thread, the removal of the content will hopefully be a last resort. We will provide an interface to allow other content creators to update the assets after the 8 weeks have elapsed. This transition is a largely automated process, so you shouldn't be contacted by N3V Games again.

Terry,

Will this "interface" retain the KUID of the original author? (See issues re this raised on the other thread).

Cheers

In short, yes. A new KUID will need to be created with an incremented version number, but it will retain the original author and content ID.

In detail, a website will be provided to allow the public to view any assets which are available for repair. From this website Trainz users will be able to 'claim' an asset. Once claimed you can then download and repair via the normal methods and upload the asset through the Auran website. Content Manager will block attempts to upload someone else's content, so uploads of this type will be restricted to the website.
