RenderingSystem failure with TRS2004

3Ds MAX will be my demise
G'day!

Just got TS2009 to work now TRS2004 won't work?!?! What.. the... hell!?!

Everytime I press 'Launch Trainz' on the TRS2004 menu, I get a 'RenderingSystem failure'
This is what it says:

RenderingSystem failure.

Your computer hardware and or software is unable to communicate with Trainz.
Ensure you have:
-Installed DirectX 9
-Installed the latest drivers for your video card. (ie. at www.nvidia.com or www.ati.com)
-Tried both OpenGL and DirectX settings. (Trainz Launcher-> Configure Trainz-> Display Settings)

If the above does not work, please consult your manual or visit technical http://www.auran.com/trainz/technical_support.html

I have tried both OpenGL and DriectX. No result.

Have DirectX 9 and recently installed new drivers for video card.

Don't have manual for TRS2004.

Can't be bothered visiting Tech Support because no one ever replies.

Cheers... :(

Jake.

Hi Jake,

~snip~ Don't have manual for TRS2004. ~snip~

I assume you have a DVD disk for your TRS2004. There is a manual included there.

You are unlikely to get a reply. Auran support ended for TRS2004/06 in September of this year.

I'd be very surprised, though, if the community cannot sort out your problem. Not everyone looks in every day, so it might be worth being patient for a little longer.

Cheers

What is your operating system? If it is Vista or above, then you probably have DX10 installed. TRS2004 can't deal with DX10, and gives you that error because, technically, you don't have DX9 installed. In some cases, DX10 is NOT backward compatible with DX9.

EDIT: You might also run 'DXDIAG'. Running this will let you know of any potential problems with your rendering system. It will also tell you exactly which version of DX you have (including build numbers).
