Renaming items

changing names in surveyor

You can, I've done it several times, so I could find items that I want to use.
Thes items have shown up in surveyor without any apparent affect.

keep a handwritten log book with the names of your favorite assets, and make a "new route" or a baseboard off to the side of your route, which you use as a painters pallet, a collection of your favorite assets: textures, locos. railcars, buildings, tracks, trees, signals, signs ... etc ... for easy referance

You don't need to open the kuid and edit the config.txt file, in CM click the kuid to highlight it and in Asset Details panel change the name in the Asset Name box.

That is true and I used to do that, but if CM crashes for any reason which it is all too prone to do, the name change will be lost. If you change the username in the config file the change will be permanent.

Clone the Asset

To be completely safe, clone the asset your are interested in. THEN, go in and set the name to what you want it to be. This way, the original asset is unchanged so if for some reason you need to revert to it, it will still be there.
