Rebuilt Merchant Navy Class

Hi all,

I was just wondering, on LieLestoSbrat's wonderful Merchant Navy class, I have a tiny niggle wiht it and wondered if anyone could help? When moving in Driver, a lot of steam comes out of the wheels. I do not believe this is prototypical, although others may disagree. Either way, does anybody know what I have to delete/edit to get rid of this steam? Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,

I would think, as a man who has delt with the demon, that the 'rings' are leaking; terribly! How do you fix that in cyberspace? I have no idea!

Those are probably steam effects or leaks as SteamBoatEng is perhaps suggesting.

If you want to modify it for your own use then have a look at the smoke effects in the config.txt. Try adding or amending the "enabled" tag to 0 in each container. Generally, smoke0 and smoke1 are used for the funnel/stack so it would probably be one or more of the others.

If the "offending" effect is mode speed then you can also amend the maxspeed tag to a lower value so the effects disappear earlier. Generally these effects appear when the loco starts moving and disappear when the max speed for the effect has been reached.

Rob (Lielestosbrat) uses his own twinkles (smoke/steam effects) (pfx files) and you can find more info here: http://www.lestorouteworks.co.uk/html/twinkles.htm. There's an interesting pdf file there worth reading.

I've been doing quite a bit of research in this area recently. :)

I just downloaded it and it worked fine in TS12 without any changes. No errors or warnings. The steam effects on starting are perhaps a bit over the top - maybe it wasn't like that in earlier versions of Trainz. There are an awful lot of smoke effects containers in the config.txt and I just followed my own earlier advice and set enabled to 0 for all the smoke effects using a glands tfx file. The loco now moves off with just a puff of steam from around the cylinders. If I were serious about modifying it for my own use I'd probably examine the attachments in PEV's Mesh Viewer and get rid of a few smoke effects.

It is a very nice looking model and I really like the paintwork (textures) but the sounds are a bit tinny and it did seem to take off rather rapidly in cab mode. I didn't have a tender or carriages.

I didn't get any warnings on first downloading but I did get a couple after modifying the config.txt. One was for the build number and the other was for no shadow mesh. The shadow mesh can be created from PEV ShadowMaker tool. I'm not sure of the consequences of just bumping the Trainz version number.

At idle and prior to applying throttle, it was neccesary to drain the cylinders by blowing a tad of steam thru 'em. Get rid o'that condensed water which could cause such irritating 'Boinking' noises. Keeping the drains cracked a bit, 'till the cylinders warmed up was common practice. Steam wasn't so bad in the summer; but in winter it could clear your nasal passages right quick!

Thanks to everyone who replied. I've sorted it out, by changing the 'enabled'in the config on all smoke that is eaither 10 or 15kph to 0, the irritating smoke stopped. It now runs realistically. I've also replaced the sounds eith those of the Light Pacifics. What a gem! It looks and sounds fantastic!
Many thanks again,
