Really annoying error. Please help.

might be back?
Whenever I edit something in TRS at the moment, I get the following message when I try and commit the content.
"Error: File 'kyybypfzkb.tmp' is not of appropriate file type"

This makes it so that I can't commit the content. What the hell is going on. It happens in 10 and 12 btw. The file does not exist in the content that I have edited.

Try removing the association of .tmp files with Content Manager. This is what it sounds like anyway.

Open up Windows Explorer.
Click on Tools_Folder Options.
Click on File Types
Scroll through the list.
Find *.tmp

Remove that file from the list, and you should be good to go. If this is the problem.

I am running windows vista, and it appears that I cannot unassociate file types from anything but default programs because of it. I can unassociate on the entire computer with a program, but the .tmp is one that you shouldn't do that to.

Sorry to bump, but I desperately need help with this issue. I cannot edit anything at all anymore, except route building. This means, I can't fix errors or do any reskinning or content creation.

I desperately need help here. Any sort of help would be appreciated. Has anyone else had this sort of issue before.

By the way, I did run a virus scan, but it didn't pick up on anything.

The content that you are trying to submit apparently contains a file with a ".tmp" extension. Trainz does not know what to do with this file, hence the error. The solution is to remove that file from the content before submitting.

He's not talking about submitting anything, he's trying to commit it and content mangler don't like the .tmp extension which he can't delete because it's one of them screwy Vista/Win7 UAC problems where it's not really where you think it is.

.tmp is a TEMP or temporary file, I can't imagine why it would need to be associated with any program since by their very definition they're designed to be used and deleted, not opened with anything. My guess is you need to set content manager to run in administrative mode and do whatever else it takes to stop the UAC from sending stuff to the secret hidden virtual folder and instead edit stuff where it really exists.

Thanks, Sniper for helping.

Check this out and see if this procedure helps you.

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc709691(WS.10).aspx

Win7 is a lot easier to do this on than Vista.

There's also a utility that will do this for Vista, but I can't remember the name of it, and I don't want to pick the wrong website on the net and post it for you. I have to check my "tools" and get the the name, unless someone else can help you.

If anything, try starting an Explorer (Windows Explorer) session with Admin access and see if that helps.

Which version of Trainz is affected?

If it is TRS2004 or TRS2006, the .tmp file is usually the result of a fatal error during saving.

To commit the item, you have to delete the .tmp file from the asset's folder. Note though that you may lose any changes not previously saved.

10 and 12. I checked, there is no visible .tmp file in the asset. It happens if I save the config, paste in something new, edit part of the file, ect.

Weird now...I have to think a bit on this one.

Have you tried, I hate to say it, a DB repair?

This might put things straight and hopefully clean up your problem.

John

If, as you say, it has happened after a config edit, it may be worth checking if the program used has left behind a hidden .tmp file.

If you'd like us to take a look for you, zip up one of the problem assets from your editing folder and email it to <trainzdev@auran.com>. I can't promise you that we'll be able to help, but we can at least look and see if we can repro the problem that you're having.

Just for the heck of it, try this...

On your Internet Explorer status bar click tools.

Click Internet options.

Under the section called Browsing history click Delete.

That should delete all your temporary files from your computer.

Just a suggestion. I hope it works for you.

and i thought railworks had issues all the blooming time with the silly "something bad has happened with your program"...........

trying a reinstall of trs2004 on laptop to see if its the ageing better processor/graphics pc...

The problem has been fixed.

The last little bit of a virus I thought I had fully killed was hiding in cmp. What you do is open something in explorer, go to options, folder options, view, and make hidden files and folders visible, then run a virus scan.

A very special thanks to Justin from Jointedrail for helping me fix the problem.
