Realistic size

Is there anyway to kept all assets and trains from changing size as you move further away. In a model rr setup as you move around the room the trains and assets really don't change in size. By keeping everything a constant size it would really make a model rr look like a model rr.

Are you speaking to perespective? As you move away, your field of view expands, so individual objects have to grow smaller as they take up less of your field of view and you see more of the surroundings.

While you can build model railroads in Trainz it is not a model railroad simulator. Changing the scale only changes the rulers, the scale of everything in the program is still real world. For example, when I was young 55 years ago. I had a model railroad that filled a 14' x 12' room. Everything was at scale except me. As I looked across the room my view was only a few feet so the perspective effect was minimal. However, your viewing position in Trainz is real world scale and the objects are built to real scale. So looking from one side of a baseboard to the other side is a distance of more than 2000' which greatly increases the effect of perspective. Model railroads in Trainz are just illusions. My entire model railroad would fit into a 1/4 of a baseboard square.

Sorry for using fractions, I know metric only users have a hard time with them. ;)

I just want everything to stay the same and not change. If this is perspective than yes. Is there way to keep it from happening. Maybe rewrite a script

Would changing the Field-of-View angle achieve the effect? Is it possible to do that in Surveyor or Driver mode? I thought it was possible, perhaps in some earlier version of Trainz, but it might have just been an effect used when taking screenshots.

I thought of that but I'm not sure that is what he is asking about. That is available in all new versions and I set it to 25 myself as I like the way looks. I think it give a more realistic view of rolling stock. It is under the System Menu(hamburger menu icon) in the top left of the screen under Settings in the Interface submenu.

If your in model train room and you move around the size of the assets don't change. In Trainz that would make a MRR much more realistic.

This is a really silly thread. :sneaky:🙃 @coop2

In any situation, anywhere on our planet. Objects will always appear to become progressively smaller as you move away from them.
Stating they don't is like stating that the earth is flat !

In a real world MRR layout you are in a room that's also real scale say 20x20 feet. Your visual perspective (height and width) is much shorter and compacted due to objects being only feet away from your eyes, rather than many feet or dozens of feet to hundreds or thousands of feet away when you are outside. Go outside >>> Your visual perspective then becomes much wider and higher.

If you build an virtual (in Trainz) MRR layout, you are always building it to the sims ingame scale, 1:1 in meters, regardless of what scaled up wall, floor door, fascia and other room props you use to achieve visual scale... and that regardless of what model scale prop size you choose to use (HO, O, N or whatever.) Your visual scale is like you were outside. You have to add scaled up room props to trick you eyes into perceiving the layout as being a smaller scale, but the in-game camera will see things in the 1;1 scale.

There is no changing that!

So try different Field of View settings using the slider. See if it makes anything more realistic for you. This screenshot was taken in TRS19.

I did increase the view. It makes it a little better but assets still change in size. Just trying to make a MRR look more like a real MRR. I know I'm asking at lot.

You are, and you can't change it. The world physics is as it is ! :D Or, maybe you just have weird eyes?

I think you don't realize that as you look around the room, closer things actually are a tiny bit larger in your view and objects farther away are slightly smaller. Even in a small room, it just is. Try holding a boxcar right up to your eyes. You can't even see the room, all you can see is boxcar. Move the boxcar away from your eyes, and now you can see more of the room and the objects in it. The boxcar isn't smaller, but it is farther away and therefore takes up less of your field of view. So in effect, it is smaller in your field of view than it was.

Maybe what you're asking for is an invisable track that a camera could be mounted to and follow the aisles of the train room while staying focused, a constant distance, on the train?
Chase view doesn't do that very well, becuase the train is always changing direction and the operator isn't staying within the aisles. On a actual layout, subconsciously your eyes are always making adjustments to stay focused of the train. Unfortunately, like someone said, this isn't actually a "Model Railroad Simulator". All the scaling really does is simplify taking measurements from a layout drawing. Now for that coffee refill..
