Ready to put your error fixing skills to the test

Run trainz diag again, Ogl version should be 4.1, dx 10 or above.

Only other thing to try is re load DX9c redistributable again, as I said earlier it may have got corrupted.

Latest 32bit driver for the 8300 GS is here http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7-winvista-32bit-280.26-whql-driver.html

64 bit is here http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7-winvista-64bit-280.26-whql-driver.html

both 280.26

This is the second time in a week that the nvidia driver detection seems to have failed.

To add from the blurb.

This driver package supports GeForce 6, 7, 8, 9, 100, 200, 300, 400, and 500-series desktop GPUs as well as ION desktop GPUs. This driver package also includes the 3D Vision Controller driver.

Is that auto or manual, don't forget to put your OS in.

I also got it to version 280.26.
Malc is using win7, what's your OS

According to the specs an 8300 GS was used, try what I said earlier to find what's in the comp for graphics.
First post, scroll down near the end it says nvidea version 2:4:1016:25 for file and product version. So you have an nvidea of some kind in there.

Doing some checking here as well, seems that there is also an onboard VGA controller although some were sold with the 8300GS. Horrible feeling it's going to be an integrated Intel.

Supposedly the Graphics card in your PC as some were supplied with that card installed. Obviously yours hasn't got that card and is probably using the onboard graphics chip.

Device manager should tell you what you have, under Display Adapter.

Were both aiming in the same direction.
The 8300 GS is a graphics card that sits in a PCI slot, integrated graphics are in the motherboard.
Just been on the dell site and the chipset they're on about is a ICH9 and an intelG33 (integrated).
The 8300GS was an optional extra.
Looks like you have the base version if nvidea can't find compatible hardware.
Try the intel site for drivers.
Or open the case up to see if there is a card in there.

So get my dad to look for a card of what sort?

EDIT* Am updating something to do with ICH9

EDIT** Didnt help at all

Hopefully a graphics card about 3 inch high and maybe 6-7inch long.
Refresh my memory, what did the latest trainz diag fail on.

EDIt. good the ICH9 is the chipset. Do trainz diag after.
Forget the card, sounds like you haven't one.

My vertex shaders are version 3 so somehow your going to have to update the chipset drivers.

Just done a search for open gl, check the result open gl .org
They have a link to the intel driver update utility graphics. Use that. Then look at updating the openGL.

1. I cannot find an update at all for the intel driver update utility graphics.
2. How do I update OpenGL?

If you have on board intel graphics it is probably not fixable. If you have an available PCIe x16 slot you can look for a Nvidea GT430 or 440 that will run Trainz and not kill your Power Supply.

So in other words, try and find a graphics card?

Fraid so. But not until you make sure that your computer can accommodate one. If you have the specs for your mother board (MB), it will tell you what expansion slots your computer may have and how many of them.
