Reading & Northern RR screens (Hi-Res/widescreen)

any approx. release date?? kind of anxious haha

Yeah, the weekend of November 10th and 11th. :p Thats the weekend Kevin and i are doing our next Trainz-on-the-Road show. :D

Actually right now i believe i'm ahead of schedule to beat that date, but any extra time will be put into more beta testing, adding more stuff, and/or even extending the line.

Arlington Yard: (or whats currently left of it)

Lehigh & New England FA's making a "ghost" appearance in the yard that they would have operated in 50 years before. Not much is left today.

The eastern entrance to the yard, where the remaining two yard tracks return to the old main (now itself just a 10mph running track).

The rusty doubletrack spur leading to the Greenwood coal breaker above the yard.

Yeah he does. :)

Anyway, i've been trying my hand at modeling some areas of dense pine forests.

This is a light engine move heading north just past New Ringgold.

Note, some parts of the forest here are mixed, and in other areas its almost all pine.

See, so you won't always be driving through deciduous forests. :p

P.S. A couple older shots i had up on the USLW forum: :)

Southbound Reading Turn, passing through a cut just south of Port Clinton.

Up at the northern end of "phase 1".

East Mahanoy Jct.

Looking south. From here its about 5 miles of twisting curves downgrade to Tamaqua.

Looking north. The junction is just on the other side of this old wooden bridge.

Nikos's new SW1500 repaint leads an extra up the line.

The junction. My Trainz route will follow the diverging track, which is actually termed the mainline, since thats the route that you need to take to reach the railroads Lehigh Division (Jim Thorpe and points north).

Everyone's favorite railfan waits to capture the passing train.

Heading upgrade towards the old yard at Haucks. At this point the grade's about 1.5%, and you can see the track isn't your manicured, wide, Class 1 mainline. ;)

Hopefully i'll have more soon. Just another week or two ;).

Hi Roon, I've been following this thread and I to am eagerly awaiting it's release. One question, it might have been asked but I didn't see it, how are the frame rates? Will I need a top end machine to run it? I love George Fisher's routes but they sure do make my machine stutter.

Between 20 and 30 frames per second in areas with lots of stuff (towns, big open valleys with lots of trees, etc). Around 40 in other sections.

My computer specs are:
Athlon FX-55 @ 2.8ghz (single core)
2 Gigs RAM
Geforce 7900GS 256MB

My computer runs it comparable to my NS Reading Line route, so if you can run that...

I built the route with the best results in mind, knowing that users who don't have the computer to run it well can either turn down their detail settings or just go into Surveyor (or something like TrainzObjectz) and delete stuff....or for even when they get that shiny new computer down the road.

Thankz Roon, I'm running a Dell Dimension E520 with 2.67 GHz, 2Gigs RAM and an 8600GTS @ 256MB so I should be OK. One more week.

Yeah, i'm gonna use the big train show as a final beta test, as there will be tons of Reading Co./R&N fans there, and even some employees. :)

Some final polish, and i'll release it next week with hopefully lots of fanfare and info. :D

Here's a teaser screenshot 'till then.

I grew up in Hershey, with the Reading coming through town. First steam then diesel. Now, of course this is NS country. Your route looks exactly like the country around here, amazing detail.

This is a must have for me - Reading and NS both. Perfect! Am I correct in assuming that this will be on the DLS?. It doesn't really matter where it is - I'll crawl to it if I have to. :udrool:

It will probably be on the USLW site only. I'm still deciding if i want to keep the un-modeled baseboards attached to the route (since they all contain more R&N track) or delete them. Right now with the route containing the original, full DEM map, its about 40 megs. Without the extra baseboards it might be around 10.

~Roon

I'll take it any way you release it. I'm not a big fan of huge routes, so I would probably delete the extra boards anyway.

Just make a BIG SPLASH when it's ready!

Everything is now finished except final track inspections and deleting all the extra baseboards.

Here's some new screenshots that are probably going to be the final shots of "phase 1". :)

Two pups brave the Greenwood running track with a short empty hopper train for LC&N coal.

Coming off the main and crossing route 309 in the southern end of Tamaqua.

Coming into Arlington "Yard". The building on the very right is a modern industry that uses the old roundhouse as part of their facility.

Getting ready to reverse and shove up the 3% grade.

Going up.
