Reading Line 2.0 screenshots! (56k warning)

is the RN a complete line, or is just there to be a attractive scenery object?

The Hamburg Branch runs for about a mile from the station, and i have one online industry in, so its not the full line. I forget how long the branch is exactly, 8 miles maybe? So, we've actually thought about perhaps someone creating it as another "addon" for the Reading Line in the future.

It would be interesting to see, a little bucolic branch line running along the Schuylkill River and portions of the old abandoned canal, the Reading Company T&HS museum and yard at Leesport, etc.

The R&N mainline that breaks off from the Reading Line a few miles south is only in for about a quarter mile. We always considered adding more to that, but that would be a huge project.

Anyway, hope that answered your question :).

Hey Josh,

I'm glad to see you made a custom Temple Station. In my mind, that's one of the key locations on this end of the map. Lookin' good!!!

don't the ns get coal from the reading northern, i thought it is close around there,

Yeah, about a mile or so down the tracks the R&N's mainline connects with the Reading Line at CP Burn.

Here it is in my route:

And here it is in real life:

It's sort of interesting to note, that years ago this was all Reading Railroad trackage, and the roles of the two conjoining lines here were almost reversed. The R&N's route was the heavy duty mainline, while the NS Reading Line was just a branch. :)

Ok, so i lied (about not posting more shots :p). These shots are a little treat for all the local Reading guys, and represent the first set of shots made possible from some real world scouting and photography from Rick1958 (thanks Rick! :)).

Anyway, i give you....the Sevent Street Cut! This single track slices through downtown Reading south of Spring St. Yard, connecting with the Belt Line further south to form the main line to Philadelphia. This is about as far south as you can go in the route for Trainz (at least at this point).

Light power enters the north end of the cut.

And finally exiting at the south (and unfinished) end.

Also, the wall spline is another custom object created specifically for this line which will be available soon.

Hope you liked them!

Hey Josh,

Nice job on the cut. It looks great!!! ...and the tire half buried in the ballast? There's no place like home...LOL Great job!

Hey Josh....Anything going on?

Yeah, but was mostly just taking a couple day break before i burn myself out (have school work to do too). I should get some work done this weekend, if i'm not at the library too much.

If i do, i'll post what i've done :).

Great Work. Can't wait to enjoy this.

May I ask on request, place TM's on the mainlines in the middle of the big rail yard(s) so thru traffic AI can be designated to run on those tracks instead of using the shortest route. Wish people would do this on all rail yards for proper session AI traffic flow.

Good call, we'll just have to remember to add these in all the locations (some are already in) before we release it.

Anyway, i know i'm overdue for pictures, so....without further delay...

The old Bethlehem Union station; the latest custom building for the Reading Line (we've since fixed the gap and altered the color a bit).

Ok, now here is the story for this location. Years ago, this building was the main passenger station for both the Lehigh Valley and Reading railroads in the city of Bethlehem, PA. The Lehigh Valley mainline ran parallel and is the double track line still in heavy use today. The Reading railroad served the station via its Bethlehem branch, which came across the river, crossed the Lehigh Valley tracks, and continued past the station, through the city, on to the Bethlehem Steel yards, and ultimately on to Philadelphia.

With the closure of Bethlehem Steel years ago, and the final decision of the city that they did NOT want restored passenger rail service between their city and Philly, the northern half of the Bethlehem branch was ripped up around 2002-2003. At about that same time. St. Lukes Hospital decided they would renovate the old crumbling station into a health center.

And that is how we have the scene modeled today. Of interest, many of you will spot the signals still standing on the torn up Beth Branch. They are still there (and lit!) because they are still wired into a functioning control point, and NS doesn't want to have to rebuild it.

In this final image of Bethlehem, you can see where the Beth Branch continued on, with one of the old diamonds rusting away on the side (the bridge is still used to connect to Allentown yard).

And finally, all the way at the other end of the route....a little work-in-progress shot, taken at Oley tower (another custom building :)).

The view is looking south into the city of Reading.

Thats all for now, i have other areas i could show, but none that are near enough to completion yet, so...
Perhaps in a few days...

That signal in the parking lot? Is that what you were refering to in your post?

your scenes are fantastic!!! Nice job indeed. If I grab you the measurements, would you be interested in doing a prototype Franklin Station?

very very nice work:D i will definetly download when its done. i love the details in the last shots especially the abandoned branchline and the signal in the parking lot, details make the difference:)

There is really a signal in the parking lot, that is totaly and completely awsome! You should take a picture of it, I have to see this.

Great work Josh!

Sure :). It might take a bit longer though, because i've agreed to do some archaeological "reconstruction" of old Hopewell moundbuilding sites (John should know what i mean by those, since they seem to be all over Ohio ;)) using Trainz Surveyor for one of the archaeology professors at my university, and my Gmax builder is going to be busy building things for that as well.

Now onto the signal and screenshots...Ok, so its not exactly in the parking lot :p. I'll probably slide the invisible track over before the layout is released. You can click this link to see more shots of the real thing (station and signal).

And...it appears that i was wrong as well, seems like the signal is no longer lit..oh well.
(there are also more shots of the area if you click around that site)

Anyway, glad you guys like these shots. Bethlehem is definitely an interesting place :).

Yes I know about the mounds they are pretty cool, can't wait to see them in TRS.
@ Great photos, I can't get over that signal its just awsome.

Roon38038: Nice shots! NOTE: It might be more realistic if you use the Derlict Signal by Nikos1 at the DLS. You can put 3 and ajust hight on each to make it a 3 target signal like the real one without using an invisible track spline. :) -Chris
