Re-skinning: Anyone interested?

I have never skinned a train in my life and I don't really have time to learn.

I was wondering if for the following diesels, you could either give me a link to one already skinned OR re-skin one for me (and upload it to the Download Station).

I would be very grateful.

Class 31 in Regional Railways Livery OR in Trainload Coal

Class 37 in Intercity livery

These images are not my own and are only provided as a guide.

If you have a link or are interested i'd prefer you to Private Message me.

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

There is a 37 in IC Swallow Livery on the DLS, just punch the name nexusdj under the author category. Or you could just sear Intercity 37 or something like that. As for the RR and TrainLoad Coal, I've no clue about the TrainLoad one. I do know that there is no RR 37 at the moment. If I ever get the will to reskin one, I'll let you know. I want to find a good 37 first.

Re-skining

What is the overall general rule about re-skinning others freeware content ? I'm sure this topic has come up several dozen times before.
Is it OK to experiment, clone and re-skin others freeware cars, loco's, etc... for use ONLY on your own route, without asking permission ? Is Showing (Posting) screenshots on the forum of these un-requested non-permissions of re-skins illegal ? I am under the impression that Uploading and, sharing files, releasing to DLS and the public, the un-requested, non-permissions of re-skins of other peoples freeware is not only wrong, but illegal as this is still their property. ? I just want to know the legal rules and regulations about EXPERIMENTATION for use on your OWN route, and POSTING SCREENSHOTS on the this forum, and other forum(s) of un-requested non-perrmissions of freeware re-skins.

And as to payware, could I re-skin someones Example: wooden water tower, and post screenshots of the scene on the forum(s), and use the item on my own route, as long as I don't release, sell, or make a profit from it ?

I made a paintshed re-skin of a TGV in PRR paint scheme...(and it looks rediculous, but cool), is posting screenshots of it illegal ? Can I upload it to DLS, as it is allready a paintshed re-skin format item on DLS ?

In comparrison:
If I were to take several music CD's that someone loaned me, and remix the songs and dub them onto a CD of my own, or downgrade them to a cassette format, for listening of my OWN USE, is this illegal ? What about if I were at work, and others at my work too were listening to the music for their enjoyment. What is the law ?

First and foremost READ THE LICENSE IN THE CONFIG. The creator will usually state his/her wishes in the config. If they do not, you are still better off EMAILING (NOT posting a forum message, typing and sending a written EMAIL) them about their content usage wishes. IF they cannot be reached, forget it, don't attempt it, find an alternative.

It may be YOUR route, but it is THEIR CONTENT, you're safest option is to ASK FIRST.

I'm going to have to be updating some of my configs it seems. Far too many people have not been paying attention to coprights and intellectual rights of the creator.

As a comparison: Copying a CD for YOUR OWN use is a gray area, people seem to think it's ok, BUT if you're caught I guarantee the music companies will come after you (welcome to America). In short, you're better off not even attempting it.

Re-skining

I only wanted some different skins to the current Class 31s available on the DLS for my own route i am creating.

Class 31s are very popular with heritage railways but there aren't many on the DLS.

The way to begin....

 Gather a few pics off the web...you have some.

Open PaintShed. The Class 37 appears...you don't have time?

You can create any logo with mspaint, re-sized, etc.

PaintShed will process your desired road-skin, fill in the blanks & export.

It will appear in the Trainz version you select in the Content Folder named when you Save your skin.

With TS2009 CM2, find & open the folder then import the content.

PaintShed creates a .pm file, you can change that.

You can do it!

You can use for posting images on the web.

You can reskin anything you have, pay or free & post it on the web period.

You must follow the License agreement in the config.txt file to redistribute content someone else made...

Check-out my Download Station Content for my PaintShed Creations...all outside graphics were done listening to Oprah & Dr. Phil using mspaint.

The side-question...

 Most of our complaints concerning violations of End User Licence Agreements(EULA's) are related to sending copies of content to others to help avoid the process of re-numeration to the original content creator...that's prosecutable & covered by International Copyright Law.

That's on the same level of burning copyrighted music & giving away what you've done...illegal & prosecutable also.

Legally obtained payware can be cloned in Content Manage however there is a way to restrict that...I'm glad not too many people do that.

You can post pics of you cloned assets, just don't even think about distribution...YOU would be stealing from the person who created that & the simple habit will eventually become you undoing on way or another.

Most of the EULA about freeware & DLS assets concerns the Content Creator's restriction to prevent "unsuitable" versions being created that detract from the original dedication to design.

Freeware also can carry restrictions that prevent sale of the files...all Download Station content carry this rule.

Some content restricts the "reference to this content by payware creations.(routes for example)" That's silly...if the End User doesn't want that then they can simply delete the reference in the config file. But you cannot add the restricted content files to your upload.

Simply said, you can do anything you want with files on your computer obtained legally, including posting pics, just don't violate the terms of the Content Creators End User License Agreement.

It's dishonest & will destroy your enjoyment of this hobby.
