New BR Mk1 coaches - thanks N3V!

Actually, just thought of a further question - what stage have the new maroon Mk1s reached and what is the plan for their release?

Hi Rob and Paul
Thanks for letting us know, we're looking into this now to work out why this mesh version was in the package. We're currently looking at getting this fixed ASAP.

For the maroon ones, these are still being worked on to get them ready, but no news on when.

Regards

Thanks Zec, I thought that it might have been a small glitch that crept in. Thanks for the prompt response!

A few other small issues that might be worth looking at if you're going to issue an update....

(1) The window frames on the BG are displaying strange artifacts:

(2) the RMB, FK, CK and BFK now seem to have very dark, rusty roofs unlike the standard grey ones they had before:

(3) Some of the coaches - in this case the FK - are displaying (flashing) tail-end lamps even though they're coupled and not at the end of the consist. Please, please fix it; this one has been driving me mad for ages!

Just to say though that overall I'm very happy with these coaches and looking forward to seeing the maroon ones. Now if we could only persuade you to produce some buffet and restaurant vehicles! 😜

Paul

I haven't checked all the coaches, but the window frame texture glitches are occurring on the carmine and cream BCK as well.

Cheers,

PLP

@Paulsw2

I presume you're beta testing the new batch/updates of the N3V BR Mk1 coaches (I was invited to beta test them but I declined due to an ongoing family issue). Are you at liberty to say whether they're user editable or are they now DRM locked?

Thanks,

Rob.

Hi Paul
Thank you for the additional feedback, I have been going back over these to double check it. For the lamps, these may not update in Surveyor (since Surveyor is paused by default). However in Driver (or if you unpause Surveyor) they should update; keep in mind that unpausing will cause other things to change.

Oh, these pics are taken in Driver, but it's on Pause, so....(runs away to check)...

Actually not Rob! I've looked at the folders and there are encrypted normals, so I don't think these will be clonable as before.

That said, I've got my Mk1s aligned to the new 'N3V blue'...

Hi All
I've also replied in another thread, but would like to thank you everyone for the feedback here as well. I have passed this on to our team for them to look into further, along with some other feedback we have received from other locations :)

As the team are on holidays at the moment, it might take a little bit for us to make a proper list of what needs doing, and what can be changed in a reasonable time.

Tornado is currently only available for gold and plus, however we will be reviewing this again after a period of time :) Unfortunately carriage packages on their own can be a little difficult to sell, so we do think having it packaged with a popular locomotive will help both us sell them better, and help more people find the carriages :)

Liveries alone are fairly easy for us, however it is worth noting that earlier era models require a bit more work. Once we're fully back from holidays in the new year, we'll hopefully look into further variants that can be made from them though! The more we can get from them the better ;)

Combining two here; further variations is something else we can look into in the new year, but is of course a lot more work than new liveries :) We'll see though!

Unfortunately swapping bogies isn't available through script, and mesh-swapping is not as efficient as we would like in this case. However in theory we may be able to provide some alias assets that would allow you to make additional versions with alternate bogies...

Thanks! Interior lighting, personally, is an important feature for carriages, and with PBR it can be made to look so good! I think the MK1s in the Liskaerd to Looe pack also featured this, as did the railcars. Possible also the updated Duchess pack as well. :)

First, I don't think it's fair to say that Tony's work is abysmal. However unfortunately there are very few creators making sounds for UK steam locomotives for Trainz at this point; and for us sending a team over to the UK to record Tornado, and then the cost of creating sounds from recordings, is simply not a viable prospect at the current time, as much we would like to do so. Possibly in future we might be able to work with someone in the community to bring new sounds for UK steam to Trainz, but unfortunately this isn't an option right now.

I will also add that we are also intending, from the new year, that new releases will go through a public beta pass in TCCP so that we can gain further feedback before a full release, as more eyes are definitely better here, as everyone's feedback has shown! :)

Thanks again guys!
Zec
Oh, so that's why the Budd RDC-1, Amtrak Superliners, and BR HST packs haven't been sold by themselves yet.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but I thought it was just a two week preview for gold members.
But my main reason for posting was the inclusion of carmine and cream MK1 stock.
From what I understand, there are factors that can affect the two week preview. I read somewhere that the Amtrak Superliners were being worked on due to issues, which is why they still haven't been released yet I guess.

Hi Itstypicalrailfanner
Currently the N3V made DLC packs are exclusive to TrainzPlus and/or TrainzPlus Gold members (depending on the DLC pack). We may review this for individual DLC packs over time, however I cannot say when or if specific DLC packs may become available for separate purchase or as part of future releases of Trainz.

I don't understand why though. That makes no sense to me. Why make something specifically exclusive to Trainz Plus when it's downloadable content? Whatever happened to buying and owning? I mean, it's not my call or decision to make, but I find it quite odd that certain dlc is Trainz Plus exclusive. I think it'd be better to just have all dlc content for sale after preview. It's just really unnecessary and inconvenient to lock certain dlc content behind Trainz Plus.

This has been raised before, ie. should N3V have a clearly defined product life-cycle for their DLC? I can understand them wanting to offer benefits to those who subscribe, but I'm not sure that works for stuff that's years old. There should be a critical path that leads to:

(a) beta and RC versions available to Trainz Plus beta subscribers [t-3 to 6 months]
(b) initial release to Trainz Plus (at discount) or Gold subscribers (free) [t=0]
(c) release to TRS19/22 owners (payware) [t+6 months]
(d) release to DLS (freeware) [t+5 years]

In this way you are incentivising each tier of your membership as well as ensuring that your product has an 'afterlife' that will last beyond the immediate release. Offering models only to subscribers - as well as creating a two-tier Trainz membership - risks models becoming very 'niche' and only known to a small fraction of the Trainz userbase. Also, of course, such models cannot be used in Sessions that are designed to be uploaded to the DLS for the whole community.

Of course, if N3V wish to fully embrace SAAS - which is their right - then the next version of Trainz should be subscriber-only and not available to buy and install.

Further, I'd be interested to know - though I imagine it's commercially confidential - what the current balance is between subscribers (Plus and Gold) and owners (TRS19 and 22) as this gives an indication of the likely take-up of new models that are offered on a subscriber-only basis.
