Raising track height above floor of tunnel?

I am working on a layout based around Vulcan's canal boats and ships which run on invisible track 3 metres above water level. I would like to include some tunnels in the canal so I have replaced the bridgetrack in the tunnel with invisible track. Is there a method of raising the track level in the tunnel so that the track can connect more than 3 metres above the floor of the tunnel to connect the track splines with the general invisible track level. This would allow me to have water in the tunnel which looks realistic and the boat camera view 2 would change to the usual 'in tunnel' view. At the moment I have used a workaround by running a separate invisible track through the tunnel not connected to the tunnel splines but this means that camera view 2 looks down on the top of the baseboard when the boat is in the tunnel. I could change the camera to camera 1 using triggers and the set camera rule but it would be better if the tunnel track level could be raised.

Hi Scottish.

I did the same thing in my Glasgow Queen St 2007, kuid2:117948:1048:1 on the DLS.

So download it and go to Falkirk and check out the canal tunnel.

Basically, I sunk the tunnel to the desired depth and covered the tunnel tracks with a spline of ground texture.

And while your there, check out Vulcan's Falkirk Wheel, cool.

Cheers

Alternating the Hold Shift/Don't Hold Shift - key, is a tool that must be mastered, in order to not have tracks join like magnets.

To lay a track, on top of a track, (to hide the track below) ... measure the tunnel spline point heights, and increase that numeral by adding 0.20 to the top track height ... apply that new height to the top track (which is temporarily laid out of the way, off to the side) ... Using the Hold Shift key drag the top track slghtly beyond he tunnel tracks spline point, and make sure they do not join or click together... connect tracks, to the top track, at both ends of the tunnel.

Thanks for the replies;

I already have your layout Glasgow Queen St 2007 (one of my favourites). The technique you have used is similar to what I have already done by running a separate invisible track through the tunnel 3.5 metres above the floor not connected to the tunnel splines and adding water into the tunnel. The only disadvantage of this is that the camera does not change to 'tunnel view' because the boat is not running on the tunnel track.

I used a similar method to the one you describe to install the second track through the tunnel. I had the added advantage that the tracks were not likely to snap together because there was a 3 metre difference in height, but your description will allow laying tracks very close together.

The effect I am trying to achieve is to have the camera automatically switch to 'tunnel view' by using the actual tunnel track if the tunnel track itself can be raised to say 3.5 metres. A workaround would be to use triggers at the entrance to the tunnel and the 'set camera' rule to change to the internal view of the boat.
