Well... If I'm going to go off on a tangent from what this forum is about (Great way to introduce myself, isn't it? XD)

I'm honestly still looking for something with the kind of content I'm most interested in.

I can probably piece something together in Trainz (although I am curious if anyone can make it clearer what's happened between 2006 and the current version), but meanwhile, among various searches, I did find a simulator that sounded almost perfect...

If only I could find some actual information about it. XD - Anyone even hear of it?

Because my Web searches turn up all of two things: The official site for the company selling it, (They have a handful of youtube videos) and...
Page after page of torrent links.
Nothing else of any kind... Which I find a little weird.

The history of the company just makes it more confusing.
Because I can find info on their older stuff, but nothing at all about what they've just released.

And that history is pretty confused;

Among it are commercial content for Microsoft train simulator (and trainz), by the accounts of some places on the internet, it gets even more bizarre.

Ok, enough beating about the bush I guess:

I'm looking at Pro Train Perfect 2 -

From what I've found, Pro Train Perfect is variously explained as being a series of content add-ons for other simulators, or (in some places) the name of a german release of Trainz.

All I can make out is that according to their own site (which is entirely in German, just for good measure; I speak German, but not very well.), Pro Train Perfect 2 is a simulator in it's own right, not based on product they were creating content for in the past...

I'm curious if anyone knows anything at all about this, (and possibly why it's so ridiculously difficult to find any information about it?)

For that matter, is Pro Train Perfect (the older one, that is) really in any way related to trainz? It seems like quite a different product.

And yes, this is totally not the right way to ask a question on a forum...
Setting so many bad examples in introducing myself aren't I? ;p

Hi CrystalShadow
There is a release of Trainz, by a German publisher (note, it has a non standard content set - you may find many downloads will not work correctly without also having TS2010 - this was chosen by the publisher) known as Pro Train Perfect 2 (PTP2). It is effectively a 'expand-alone' pack.

This means that it will have all function when installed as a stand-alone pack, but will not have the 'base' content set (including 'legacy' items) from TS2010 and earlier. However, it can also be installed as an add-on pack into TS2010, giving access to both the PTP2 items and the TS2010 content set.

Lol. Thanks for clearing that up.

Actually, the N3V logo on the Trainz site led me to figure out the answer anyway.

Looking at the PTP website, I noticed a high-resolution image of the boxart, which had an N3V logo on it as well...

From that I inferred what you've just confirmed;

Whatever simulator it is, it's clearly based on the work of the same company that makes trainz.

Judging by the content list, it has some unique high-detail content included, but as you say, it is otherwise a variant of Trainz 2010...

Huh. One more mystery solved. XD

Besides RSC being way behind with their MP implimentation. The next core update includes nothing, absolutely zilch that drags it out of the "toy train" game category.

Improvements to your RailWorks 2 experience:

* All new Tutorial scenarios, to help you improve your driving skills and get the best out of RailWorks 2
* AI collisions with static consists now report latitude and longitude
* Steam engines now show the AWS cancel icon on the Cab Control HUD
* Previous AI collision in the Cement Load scenario on the Castle Rock route now resolved
* Cloud read errors have now been resolved

Improvements for specifically German and Russian users:

* Improved localization from German to English routes
* German locos in German now have German tooltips
* RailWorks 2 now fully localised for Russian players

Improvements to add realism:

* Level crossings now detect AI train movements
* Improved UK semaphore signals
* Improved HST brakes
* Improved editor font sizes and scaling within the UI
* Distance stats are now only available in Career System scenarios

They obviously do not have the capabilities of improving anything that counts. So they beaver away at meaningless updates, hoping the fan boys and the gullible will be placated.

IKB.

Curiously it seems to be working, the usual places are positively gushing over the update, especially the HST brakes, which have been broken for 4 months now (and the 'fix' is as simple as restoring the blueprints from the pre-RW2 files, if you have a backup or other means to getting the old files).

I had to laugh at the "Improvements To Add Realism" categories.

Surely a level crossing should work whether it's an AI or the player train. Think that goes under the heading of implement a half finished feature then when you complete it, spin the result as if it's something great and ground breaking. Trainz (and MSTS) had working level (grade) crossings from the getgo ten years ago regardless of the type of train.

And the editor font thing was actually a mistake in their last update and acknowledged as such, but the blind faithful are now claiming they don't want the larger typeface which doesn't give you a migraine back.

As I get deeper into the TS2009 route I'm working on and anticipating the performance boost for both 09 and 10 when the new laptop arrives I don't think I'll be rushing to install RW on there.

Vern,

i only read yesterday on ukts that Falmouth Branch, does not even have custom BR(W) LQ semaphore signals included with the package.

But uses default UQ semaphores, how banal is that in an official DLC release. :eek:

How glad am i, that i never wasted money on buying it.

Mike.

sooo you all probably would like to know why i play railworks, earlier this year i bought trainz 2009 which at the time i liked a week later i bought the S&C add on so i could have some more steamers it all installed fine.....BUT i found that i could not use any of the content that came with it this i found funny as i have seen other people use it so i decided to email the help desk to see if they had an answer about 2 weeks passed and i got no replies by this point i was a bit miffed i then put out requests for help on several forums including this one and i hardly got any replies so i decided that trainz was no longer worth my time. a friend at work a fellow driver told me about this game railworks so i decided to give it ago and quite honestly i haven't looked back since.

G'day! :wave:

Did you not read the instructions? To install this addon, you must have AT LEAST TS2009 SP2 Installed... Like any other sensible Trainzer, you MUST read the instructions before going ahead with things you know nothing about.

And by the way guys, sadly, I DID go out an buy RW2... I have to say, I'm impressed with the graphics, but as I went to the Route Builder, I found it incredibly hard to navigate around... I finally found out to lay track, but five minutes after doing that, the silly thing crashed and gave me the BSOD. :n: So I thought... 'Nuh, I'm not wasting my hard drive space on a poorly thought-out program' so I uninstalled RW2 and sold it to the nearest second hand place I could find. I then played Trainz for about three hours. As you can guess, it didn't crash at all. :)

Trainz is far better than RW2. Reading your post about animated people sir_plewsy, we have the animated people thanks to Neoklai. And you're saying that you can drive a Jinty in RW2? Wow I'm amazed...:hehe: I know a Train Simulator you can do that AND alot more! Trainz! :D

Chers! :)

Jake.

ok then if trainz is so good why has it not been nominated for game of the year....http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http://www.railsimulator.com/newsdetail.php?Ref=247&h=82565

Because RSC do seem to strike it lucky where PR is concerned - first the BBC interview now this.

They are also very adept at spinning things around and, while pointless whinging doesn't achieve anything, we are now in the situation with the three main forums UKTS, TS.com and RWA where people are frightened to post even constructive criticism as some fanboy just comes along to shout it down.

However just because something is good, doesn't mean to say it will win an award - most of the movies I like you're not going to see nominated at the Oscars or Baftas but I like them, which is what counts (to me).

Is Railworks still in business?? I figured they would be a distant memory at this point... That's a nice list of improvements they have. Too bad they need to figure out the basics first... We're going to do some things this year that RW could only dream of. Game on.

Mike

RW is only a feeder program for Trainz, it gets people interested in the subject and if they get into it they research the Train simulators further and find a far superior product to use, Trainz. :hehe:

Cheers

Are they ever gone fix the headlights and dynamic brakes,they are dead since Railsimulator? :confused:
Just pointing out the obvious.;)

Cheers
