The answer is 0. No railroads classed challengers in the 3000 class.

I got it!

Clinchfield (18), Delaware & Hudson (40), Rio Grande (21), Great Northern (2), Northern Pacific (47), Seattle, Portland & Spokane (originally 8), Union Pacific (105), Western Maryland (12) and Western Pacific (7).
There were 260 "Challengers" in the United States. Today, there are two left and they are both from Union Pacific. 3985 and 3977. 3977 is on static display while 3985 takes excursions.

GE Gas Turbine-Electric Locomotives (GTELs) and there were 30 made with number 18 at the Illinois Railway Museum and number 26 in Ogden, Utah. This ius only the so called third generation turbine, there also are the Veranda Turbines 61-75 (2nd), turbines 51-60 (1st) and the prototype UP 50. Thats a total of 56 turbines. Almost forgot number 80 the coal turtbine so that is 57. (Number 50 was an ALCO-GE product)
