Quick portal manager SE crashing saved sessions....

Building a large interactive industry focused session on a heavily customized version of the UMR 2018 route.

The Quick portal manager Standard Edition rule works fine when the session is run once. The problem is when I try to load a saved session, it causes Trainz to CTD on loading the session.

Through process of elimination I've isolated the issue to the QPM SE rule. Is this a known bug ?

This evening I plan to try a few different older builds to see if they work. Meanwhile I'm just not using it in the session. It sure would be nice though, to be able to auto spawn randomized "eye candy" mainline trains, and there is no comparable tool.

Hi Virgil-182.

I am currently just out home for two days, unable to look at your problem for these two days, but as soon as I get back home I will try to repro your problem and find a solution. I answer already to one of your question it is not a known bug. QPM should support successive session save and restore.

To find more quickly the problem, if you can package in a cdp a repro case with its session and route and any dependency not available on DLS, it can help me to find more quickly the problem. I will send you by PM my email address to send the cdp.

it can be also fine if you can submit a bug to N3V as a CTD is always a bug for N3V : an error in a third party script code may cause a script error display, but should not cause a CTD and N3V should be interested in looking to the crash dump to understand why a script has caused a CTD.

Thanks in advance for any other information that might help finding and fixing the bug.
Regards.

Having the same problem with pguy's Quick CustomHud Manager SP2 and later. That Rule shares a number of libraries with Quick Portal Manager. Once I remove that Rule from the Session I can reload saved games without a CTD. Hate starting over every time.

BTW, also using UMR 2018. Great Route.

Hi.

Just a short question : when you reload your saved session, do you reload it using the same Trainz environment as when you saved your session (same build, same assets version ) or are you trying to reload it with an updated environment ( updated build or updated assets ) ?

Only sessions reloaded using the same build and with the same assets level should work fine with no errors. When reloading a saved session under a new environment (updated build or updated assets) Trainz should detect this situation, ask for a confirmation with a warning that the operation may failed, and if confirmed will try to reload the saved session, but depending on the update or environment changes, the saved session reload may be successfull or may failed, sometimes with a ctd.

As there has been these last weeks several updates to fix some bugs in QPM SE and also in Quick Custom Hud, it may also help to understand the problem to know if you try to reload your saved session with same environment or with an updated environment ?

Regards.
Pierre.

I have had this problem, cured it by removing all your assets and only using the pre SP2 ones. I did read the dump file that TANE created using MS tools and it said there was a null value that the TANE engine could not read. Not that this helps a lot and I do not recall the values name.

There has been a discussion going on in the UMR2018 thread in the freeware forum.
Both QPM and QHM will cause a save game to crash on loading.
Original session operates fine, you just cannot reload a save.
Do not know if it is unique to this route, but it is certainly not unique to any one user.

Glad to hear it's not just me, which means it is an issue that can be corrected and not just a problem with my system.

Pierre, thanks for the reply.

In answer to your query, I am loading saves with the same assets present as the session was built in. In fact I have tested by running the session right out of surveyor, immediately saving the session, then trying to load the saved session.

In the next day or two I will send you a PM and arrange to send you the cdp for the route. And the small handful (all freeware) of non DLS assets I'm using for upgrading the route.

I figured it might be a problem with just this route. I certainly hope that's not the case, I've put a lot of time in customizing it, and besides I love this route a lot, I rarely run any other. :)

It does occur in other Routes that I have. Once I remove the Rule (Quick Custom Hud SP2) I'm able to start a new Session, save it and reload without problem.

Yes, same environment, same build. If TANE throws up a warning that something's changed I do NOT try to reload the saved game. This is for builds 92273 and 93104. Don't seem to recall a problem associated with Quick Custom Hud SP2 in build 90945.

If I create a new Route I'll start with the default Rules created by Surveyor. No problems. Include Quick Custom Hud SP2 and the Session will start, but any attempted reload of a saved game brings a CTD.

Quick CustomHud Manager (SP2 and later) <kuid2:61392:5020:47> I installed it on 26-FEB-2018.

Thanks for looking into this.

Hi Virgil and Jerry.

I have just tested this evening saving a session under driver mode, followed by relaunching the saved version, for a session on my default test route with both Quick Portal Management and Quick Custom Hud in the session rules, and ... I had no problem (no CTD, no errors) and the restored session has restarted running where the session was previously saved. And this in both 90945 SP2 and 93104 SP3 ...

So there is certainly something else in your route or session configuration that makes QPM or QCH or one of its libraries crash on reload ...

I have also created a new route, have set a short track with one consist on it, have included both QPM and QCH, and have run the session in driver mode to save it. Then relaunch from the saved version. And there also I did not had any problems ...

So not so easy to understand what is happening with your routes and sessions with your configuration.

Could you both of you package your route, your initial session, your saved session in a cdp and send this to me. I will PM you my email address. So that I can try to repro your problem under my configuration.

Can you also check that you have the last versions of all the rules and underlying libraries :

Quick Portal Manager : <kuid2:61392:5011:45>
Quick Custom Hud : <kuid2:61392:5020:47>
Extended Session Vars Library : <kuid2:61392:4052:5>
Common Data Library : <kuid2:61392:4050:51>
Quick Custom Hud Library : <kuid2:61392:4008:47>
NamedObjectsLibrary : <kuid2:61392:4053:7>
GlobalLocksLibrary : <kuid2:61392:4054:4>

Checked all the dependencies, everything is current.

Testing on another large route, Trainzitalia's Sherman Hill, results in the same CTD.

When tested on a quick single baseboard route it works normally, so there must be a conflict on the two routes I've tried.

The crash to desktop may be related to the sim and not assets. I opened trainz and went into developer and selected show debugging and it crashed. A report was sent and they have replied that they have recreated the crash and are looking into it. No routes were opened so no assets got loaded.
