Questions re Routes as Potential Buyer

I have never played this before. I am interested primarily in running Great Northern and Burlington Northern stuff. Are these routes included int he game, or do I have to buy extra routes?
I saw Uwe Metzner's Milwaukee Road clips and felt the game would be amazing, so I would like to do that as well. Thanks.

Not every route has been made yet, but there are free routes available for download if you buy 2010 or 2009, there are routes included in the game, and there are payware routes available as well. You could also buy payware routes or download free routes from 3rd party websites, but the real fun is making your vision yourself.

You can choose between prototypical routes, or others that are less so...

I've been compiling a list of routes but it's far from being done and is mostly U.S. stuff. If you want it I'll post or email it.

Please do-- a PM would suffice. Again my basic question is--can I do BN GN stuff out of the box or with free downloads. If not, how much do I have to pay thanks.

BN stuff is fairly common, not much Great Northern stuff though. I have the same tastes, and I have found that BNSF is the most robust line involving those railroads, and if you want to be very strict about brand, I'd say extra pay might be involved. However, since I have witnessed NP, BN, BNSF, GN, SP ATSF, and SF rolling stock on the rails here in Montana, so if you don't mind the mix and match on cars and just stick to locomotives by brand, you can do ok with BN, and great with BNSF for free with Trainz 2010.

LIke I said I know NOTHING about this game. The routes of BNSF would be cool. But I have to say I HATE the BNSF. I grew up in Seattle in the 80s and fell in love with those cascade green monsters with the tiger stripes. That they turned their back on that look for some ugly brown and orange scheme as a poor excuse as a GN throwback still angers me. Why didn't the BN execs do what UP did and just stick with their name an make ATSF BN.. .. Sigh. So if I can expunge all BNSF stuff in the rolling stock and just use BN locos thats fine by me. The early period with GN and NP rolling stock would be great.
How much do the extra routes and packages genereally cost. Like I said I know noting about this game and just came acorss it in googling stuff on the Milwaukee Road. The simulation as to what the MR would look like had it survive was inspiring to say the least. Have to say as much as I love the GN and BN, what I learned about what was done to the Milwaukee Road is pretty depressing.

JointedRail has one payware that meets your description of the BN (scroll down - navigation on this site is a little less-than-intuitive):

http://www.jointedrail.com/index.ph...tegory_id=14&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=109

Also, a quick look over at RRmods.com showed at least one BN:

http://rrmods.com/psd45.shtml

RRMods sorts locos by type, not RR, so you may want to spend some time in both the freeware and payware sections.

ETA: I also saw a BN Alco C424 and a GP38 on the DLS as well as GNs in the orange and brown/black. I do not know much about Western roads so I don't know what you're looking for exactly.

And if you don't like what you find, you can always create it yourself. Accurate actual landscape can be constructed with DEM programs and then you get to add the tracks, and scenery to your liking. Some enjoy this more than running the trains. This can be especially rewarding if you want a specific part of a big railroad like the BN in a specific era. Hope you enjoy Trainz.

Id lke to start out with a BNSF route that this has. Is there a setting to exclude non favored rolling stock.
I looked at the payware stuff and it looks like all the BN locos one would want are for purchase. What BN locos come in the game?

There should be a BN SD40-2 (or something like that) built-in to Trainz. Have a look around. ;) It is built-in to earlier versions of Trainz (e. g. TRS2004), so I do not know why it would not be built-in to TS2009 or 2010. ;)

Also, JoshEH made a BN GP30 model a while back. It should be on the Download Station (DLS). Make sure that your search on the DLS for JoshEH's content has the "Trainz", "UTC", and "TRS2004" version boxes checked for his content to show up. ;) I am sure that there is a lot more Burlington Northern stuff on the DLS and third-party websites. ;)

Trainz does include Favorites options. When viewing train cars and locomotives in Railyard, you should be able to mark specific locomotives and train cars as Favorites, while leaving your non-favorites unchecked. Then, you can select the option elsewhere in the game to show only your Favorites. Note that the favorite option is enabled by default, and will cause some routes, etc., to not appear in the route list. You can also type in the first letter or so of the name of something in to the little text box in the menus in Surveyor to automatically scroll the list to what ever begins with those letters (e. g. type BN to automatically scroll the list to every thing that starts with BN). ;)

Regards.

Tha's pretty much all I can find in the locomotive category that is BN related.

One last bit of advice. If you buy the boxed discs, it can take awhile to ship, as in several weeks.

I can attest to being TransDem crazy:D

I find it almost as much fun if not more fun to create maps and lay track. Getting into laying heavy scenery, but that's coming along slowly.

I know people who've had trainz from the very beginning, as well as new users who don't entertain the idea of spending an extra 30 bucks after they buy trainz for TransDem, and I myself was guilty of that for a lot of years. But after I actually did buy it and have learned how to use it (and still learning) I find it's the best investment outside of trainz itself that I could've made.

As far as routes, I'm not sure if it was built in or if not, where I might have got it, but there is a free Marias Pass route available. The free version will get you started, but if you like it, there is a longer version available as payware here:

http://hp-trainz.com/html/Shop_EN.html

I have the 2006 version running in 2009, but you might want to wait for the 2009/2010 version to buy the route.
