Questions about Trainz Classics 3 and TS 2009

Hi, a friend of mine gifted me TC3 on Steam. What folder do I save the user stuff from the Download Station?

Also, I hear the Steam versions of these games don't have all the patches/content so is it worth getting it at all? I don't see these games in stores and it's rather expensive online other than Steam.

Assuming I do buy some, if I get TS 2009 and Murchison 2, are they totally separate or can they be combined into one?

Update: Okay figured out how to use DL station. What about the other questions?

Murchison 2 can be loaded as a standalone package or installed in TS2009, TS2010 or TS2012. I recommend installing into Trainz.

I strongly advise against getting the Steam versions. You get what you pay for. Not only will you have patching problems, but you have the DRM to contend with and backing up is harder. Plus, with Auran's version, you can have multiple installations if you want them by just copying your existing program folder and everything under it and running it, though S&C seems to want to install into the last version that was formally installed. As Bob said, it's better to install S&C into Trainz, although some people (mostly route developers and content creators) prefer to keep their payware content separate from their main Trainz installation so they don't unintentionally included payware content into their creations.

P.S. I have a 25% off voucher for TS12 boxed if you want that version. It's about $38AUS without shipping.

Wow people responded. Thanks.

Sorry, but I'm trying to save money right now and I'm in Canada so Trainz 12 is out of the question right now.

I'm not sure, but you may be able to transfer some of the scenery kuids across to TC3 but you may need to change the kuid version number before it will work in TC3.
You really need TS09 or newer with Murchison 2.
If funds are tight at the moment buy TS09/10/12 later when you can afford it, but keep in eye out for offers, buy signing up for the monthly news letter.

You guys are great! Thanks!

Okay I decided to treat myself (hey it's the holidays) and get Trainz 2009 and Murchison 2 through Steam. Yes I know, I'm a bad person but they were cheap and crap and I like cheap :(

Anyway Steam installs both separately but I somehow managed to combine Murchison 2 with Trainz 2009. (moved Murchison.ja to Trainz, added serial code and did extended repair). Can I actually uninstall Murchison 2 now since everything should be in the 2009 folder or do I need to leave Murchison as is? Thanks for the help again.

Another reason why I don't want Trains 2012. It takes 15GB and I don't have the space for that right now. I'm running low :(

There is so much free stuff on the DLS that many users have more than 120 gigs of Trainz.
