Question About Route Building Between Builds

I got a interesting question. Someone was kind enough to lay some down track for a small route for me and he is using Trainz 12 without the SP1 patch. However, I have the SP1 patch (build 61388) which I got just for the Donner Pass route. Anyways, When he sent me the route tonight. All I see are the tiles that are there, But no track is included. And the route is not showing up with any missing dependencies on the content manager. Does anyone know why this is happening? Thanks in advance.

The tracks might be on a session layer, which is saved with the session, not with the map.

That is not the problem. I was thinking about this. Is there a way I can have two installations of Trainz 12 on my PC. One with the SP1 build and the other one with the build that came with the CD/DVD? The installation that I have right now goes to the following directory "C:\Program Files (x86)". If I put the other installation of Trainz 12 in the following folder "C:\Program Files". Will it screw up the other installation that I have right now on the PC?

The TS12 route should work ok on SP1. It's the other way round that wont work.
There is no restriction on the numbers of installs, just need to be careful you have the right CM open for the version you are using.
Cheers,
Mike

Better avoid installing Trainz anywhere in "C:\Program Files" (with or without (x86)). You will have a lot less problems installing it in a folder like "C:\Trainz\" with subfolders for each installation. Even better installing it on a different drive.

This was the problem Peter thanks for reminding me i'm so used to working on the session layer and forgot to merge it down before passing the route along. Thanks again for the reminder lol.
Cheers Mick.

Good practice before commencing any sort of work on route or sessions; first thing you should do is open the layers tab and lock all layers you will not be using right away. If I'm creating a session, I'll immediately lock the route layer, for example. If T2 is anything like TS12, we should all start making this a habit.

You can install multiple versions of Trainz on the same machine and even run them concurrently so long as they're installed to separate folders - ideally outside Program Files.

Thanks Peter for the help. Mick and I appreciate the help and info that you told us about. Everything is fine and dandy now and I can see the route with all the tracks in my Trainz program. Therefore, My question about multiple installations is not needed and I don't need any more info regarding that issue. Thanks again.
