Question about red signals

first of all, when stopping at a red signal, do you have to stop so the distance to signal reads 0.000 or just within a certain range? secondly, when stopped, ho long should i wait for instructions? my train just sits there. if i flip a switch in fron of the train, it might change the signal to yellow, but doing that, sent me totally off course last nite. i keep toggling session notifications but get no instructions.

When you get stopped for no apparent reason it is often not the lever (switch) directly in front of the train which is the cause, it is always worth checking that the next lever along the route is not mis-set...

I assume you are trying to run one of the built in sessions, if so can you tell us which one and where do you get stuck?
You can stop a short distance from a signal but do not go as close as 0.00 on the distance to meter as this means you are on top of it and the signal will probably see the train as PASSED the signal, in which case it will stay red.
It's best to leave a good distance of around one loco's length.

it is one of the built in sessions. im not sure of the name of the session, but i have to drop off cars at bluefield east yard and p/u cars at bluefield west yard. ihad 1 rule violation so will cause the program to think session is over or will you be allowed to complete session when you have a violation.

wow, my typing was bad in last post! also in the session i was running, it said the dispatcher would clear me to go on after my consist was built but he never did and my consist was correctly made, i had the rule violation by then also.
