Question about deleting lines in config files.

When downloading assets to earlier versions there are often errors like 'tag bogie 1 & 2 not allowed in a container' etc and this stops the asset from working ( amongst other more difficult to fix errors ) .
Then one goes and edits , delete the offending lines and commits the assets , and walla ! sometimes the assets appear...but alas..sometimes without the bogies....which perhaps makes sense, because I did delete them after all...
My question is now is , does one now have to go roam and find suitable bogies from other assets , copy them to the spaces you have left open in the config files , and if so, what is the buzz with the kuids in the kuid lists.
If I have this all mixed up and through each other please straighten me out ..

Clone the asset first then edit that. If ok alter the original to suit.
Re the bogie tags, find an asset without the moans and use that wording (if any).
