Puffing Billy

Hi All,
I thought i might start a thread to show progress of my first proper route, The Puffing Billy Railway.
Here is the start of my route:
PB1.jpg

Belgrave (not much yet, but it only 15 mins work)

Not very much at the moment but I hope to at least complete the route to Lakeside, but i am aiming to complete all the way to Gembrook ;)

Wow, that's some potential you got there! I thought the PFB was already done as a route, am I wrong?

I think the thread starter should have worked on it a bit longer before posting shots. Wait till you have some sceney, terrain and textures to give us a better idea of where you are at.

Keep going with it though ekni123, even if you don't succeed at making this route, you will learn a lot from using various functions in Surveyor to help make your future routes improve.

What Happend to the orginal

I know it got as far as Menzies Creek and I think it was looking quite good.

Belgrave to Menzies Creek has been done already and had more than just basic scenery. It was created by Peter Hilton who I believe is slowly working on an extension to Gembrook. His username is 'pgh3' It would be a pity to waste your efforts on something that has already been made.

We, a Trainz Narrowgaugers sub-group, are currently working on the Beech Forest Line which still leaves the Moe-Walhalla and the Wangaratta-Whitfield lines. The last one would be good to start with, it had relatively flat scenery and ran through fairly open countryside. The trackbed is still visible in many places as it followed the road most of the way

Whatever you choose, you must do some research first, and make the full line topographical work before you lay any track otherwise you will be very disappointed in your results. The later three lines were in hilly country so your track has to work with the hills, not the other way round.

Yep, it went to Menzies. Was also based on pre G42/rebuild workshops era as well (so pre 2003/4 IIRC), hence you can't really shunt with G42 on it...

It does look like a good start, but I would suggest obtaining some DEM for it first. I would also suggest moving the run around in a little, since the gap is enough to have 2 locos side by side with about 1-2 feet spare (maybe a little more, certainly not enough for the average person to safely stand between though). You might also want to check your platform length. The average PBR Train for a double header is 6 cars + 10 cars (most trains run 10 car sets, with the Gembrook set being 6 cars). You can normally fit this in, with the rear van being opposite the station doors and the locos at the home signal (end of the platform basically).

Actually, that list needs an update. Belgrave to Menzies is done, however Upper Gully to Menzies is not done... Moe to Walhalla (plus some logging tramways) is on the DLS, TRS06 SP1 only and requires Sirgibby's payware. Beechy is being done by you guys. Which only leaves Whitfield (I'm really tempted to do this as well, and make a version with the planned extension :) ).

HI S301

Talk to Nicolas Tesdorf first, he is doing them all slowly, Have the first Beta of Beech, he is going to send me the 2nd. Had a CDP id the first beta of Whitfield If I rember right but could not load it as its for either TC or 2009 and only have 2006 loaded.

Don'r foreget Welshpool Its yet another Victorian NG, Horse powered but not worth forgeting.

Tom

In another thread I mentioned to Nicholas that we were also making the Colac-Crowes railway. ours is intended for TS2009. He has made no comment. I read in his last post before Christmas on the subject. that he considers he has made the Moe-Walhalla line and that Wangaratta-Whitfield was on Trainzone.

Trainzone does not have the route, I would like to see it.

Regarding the Moe-Walhalla line, I found this, it is called Gippsland VR and is nothing like the prototype. I am glad he did not call it Moe to Walhalla. If his rendition of the BFR is the same type of fantasy, I feel we will have no qualms about making the same route properly.

Nicholas, it may be that we can join forces, I have a lot of the BFR content made in readiness. I would like to have a look at your BFR Beta. Perhaps we can work together.

Ok then well i can see if there are other layouts of the PBR in progress or completed or whatever is happening, i'm not really going to bother with mine, so i will leave that and see what happens with the other ones.

I have another plan for a layout any way, Keep an eye out i'll be posting about it soon.

Reading back through this thread it seems I have been inconsistent, saying that you should not make another PBR while at the same time saying that we will make second Colac-Crowes.

If you want to, and if you can make yours better than the existing line go ahead, ignore what we are saying. A suggestion, contact Peter Hilton and see if you can get involved with the extension of the existing route to Gembrook. I will email you with his address.

Gippsland VR

This is not the Moe - Walhalla it is a Fictious line covering nearly all of Moe to south Gippsland, the VR version was a update to the orginal signalling that I helped with. Althought itys fictious its a great layot.

Moe - Wahalla is under its own name.

Tom

The Moe-Walhalla does not exist on the DLS. That is what I looked for first, there are four routes under his KUID and Moe-Walhalla was not there. I have looked at the Port Welshpool route, it does not impress me, too much unnecessary content and several anachronisms, including modern cars in two caravan parks in a pre-1940 era.

Intresting

Tried a search 3 ways from DLS but could not find themeither but they show in 2006, have the latest one loaded, Don't knoiw what has happned, had this trouble with other people items and layots as well, maybe DLS has a new bug.

Tom

From memory, these were removed at the same time as a number of items that were uploaded without the original author's permission (some of which actually caused Trainz to crash with a fatal error). My guess is they used these items in the maps in some way.
