PRR Position Light Query

Ancient Trainzer
I am making a fictional shortline route which connects to the PRR so I need to signal the length of PRR track. I have tried to follow what information on the distinctive PRR signals I can find. I must say to me it seems a rather complex system compared to the fairly simple systems we have over here. However, apart from one reference to an X pattern for the lights I cannot find how switching at a junction or onto a siding was signalled.

Can somebody please enlighten me or point me to a link explaining how it was done. Also is there any suitable signal available on Trainz as all the ones I have tried do nothing when the points are switched.

Thank you in advance for any help.

I am also confused, and am reading up on PRR Position Light Signals

Seems many different variations were used on the same signal bridge, and allot of signal bridges had very different PLS signal designs, than one next signal bridge down the line

Many signal bridge gantries had only 2 signals for a 4 track line, or a Jury Rigged flat stock bar with PLS lights mounted to the thin metal strip

Seniorchief has A through H PLS

John,

From what I understand after reading various sources on the PRR PLS system is these represent the arms of a semaphore so that might help for starters. What else might be confusing you is our signals are used to govern speed instead of track and we group signals together rather than have a semaphore signal blade for each track.

To handle a diverging line, I would use a two-head stacked signal. The signals are set so that the top signal will be red, or in PLS parlance, a horizontal line, and the bottom to indicate the speed of the diverging line based on the position of the lights.

Here's some information on the PRR signals as well as others.

Does anyone know what the large lights are for ?

Unfortunately Seniorchief PLS signals have no description, telling what use and location they are intended for, and the exact same screenshot preview is used on all of his signals

I noticed that many have several types on styles A through H ... such as the "A Style" signals ... but all 4 seem identical ?

Some have lower quadrant signals that do not light up ... I will have to test them all

It seems on quite allot of signal bridges only a single top round backboard is used

The Seniorchief's also have improperly-sized lower heads, and have extremely high polycounts. That's largely why I'm making my own, from PRR plans.

@Cascade, if you mean the round lights in the middle, those are Rule 280 lights that are used in cab signal territory. They allow a non-CSS train to operate in cab signal (Rule 562) territory. A flashing while light means the dispatcher has cleared the train to the next interlocking. Some were recently put in service on the Keystone Corridor.
