To all prr fans the Altoona railroaders memeral musuem is going to bring 1361 back to altoona to restore her in their roundhouse. when the roundhouse is finshed in the fall. she will run in the yard under reduce pressure. as a railfan i am glad the k-4 is come back to altoona to be restore. sorry for some of my misspelling on some of them. thank you.

sadly, not a perma-ban it looks like. Dp, I am a PRR fan, but GIVE IT A DANG REST! NOT MANY PEOPLE CARE ABOUT THIS. (sorry about the all caps). where did that Noob Card for Dp go...:o

No, people care, its just old news.

Why are you back anyway (no K4, DP)

the 1361 will be rebuilt at the museum roundhouse and hire a steam locomotive expert to finsh and test the boiler on the k4

I realize that now Klinger, sorry, this Noob really irritates me.. btw, the boiler has been unsound even when it was built almost 100 years ago, compared to our "Modern and always correct" standards:n:
what do you mean boiler is unsound? by the way i did research from railfan and railroad magizine.

straight from the mouth of Larry Salone, the one in Charge of Altoona Railroaders Museum/Memorial and the East Broad Top preservation group. You can't believe what you read unless it is quoted straight from someone who knows what they are talking about.

Yes this is true partially. As I understand it while it is unsound as is. There is a procedure available that could be used to make it steam worthy. I believe Strasburg Railroad is doing that procedure on another Pennsy Engine at this time.

it costs a ton though, so at this point, unless they get a generous Donation, The K4 is going to just be a stuffed trophy. Which really saddens me, it happens to be my favorite nng (non Narrow Gauge ) Locomotive,

Lemme point out all the faults with your idiocy... Erhm.. "Statements"
1. 1361 will NOT be returning to steam anytime soon. 1361 has been undergoing restoration at Steamtown for the past Decade and a half. That's about 15 years. 1361 is SO structurally unsound that at this point, it requires a whole new boiler. Ever since the Steamtown crew got onto it, it has been a plague of problems. They fix one small spot, and a new one arises right next to that spot. Also, The entire drive-train assembly (IE: Wheels, Axles, Pistons, Connecting rods, Valve Gear and suspension) Had to be completely replaced due to the extreme wear on them, making them virtually useless.
2. Steamtown, and Altoona, are BROKE. With this wonderful Economic downturn, Altoona, let alone Steamtown cannot keep sinking money into a problem that most likely will not be fixed. Unless you can manage to pull the Extra $10 million out of your ass to fund its restoration, its not gonna happen.

At this point, Steamtown would have better luck returning Nickle Plate Road Berkshire #759 to service than 1361. 1361 had a great run in the late 80s, early 90s, but it's time has come. Forget it. It will not happen.

Also, "Research" isn't information based off of one source who "Seems to know Everything" This Larry Guy doesn't know Squat when it comes to 1361 and its restoration. Even the common railfan like myself understand's the problems with 1361. Next time when you try to come up with the excuse of "I researched it with 1 source" You will offically have become another moron of this forum, Along with the rest of them.

Now, Go back to playing in your playpen with your Brio trains, and keep dreaming, because it isn't happening.

the 1361 will be the second pennsy steamer to be back in steam beside PRR 643.
Oh man! Will it?! That's So Cool Man!
/Sarcasm

Look kid. Pull your head out of your ass. Your one of the people we museum volunteers call FRN's... or "F'in Rail Nuts." As in, we don't appreciate your comments on how to do things or what should be done in our museums. Like I said before. Go back to your playpen and la-la land, as you obviously don't know how a railroad, let alone a museum operates. Its a small green thing, called dollar, and we need A LOT of them to even function. Nothing comes for free in the preservation of railroad equipment.
By the way, Danny Phantom was not a good show, hence why Nickelodeon canceled the show to begin with.
:o

Boiler barrel repairs are common, even in the old days. Its cheaper then replacing the boiler. RGS 20 had the top left section replaced about midway down the boiler. The RGS rolled the engine and dented the boiler and never replaced it (they were poor after all)

Strasburg replaced it with a patch. Lakeside Scenic Railroad 18 has a boiler patch on the bottom of the barrel, LSSR 17 needs the same treatment, one of the reasons we don't run 17 right now.

The Alternative is a procedure like D&RGW 492. In 1948, the boiler which was build around 1902 was replaced with a welded steel boiler.

the k4 will be back in steam when the work on it is completed. here are some photos of 1361.

1361 back in steam i hope

three things. First make your phots 800X600 IF YOU FEEL THE NEED TO POST POINTLESS PHOTOS! Second, all the threads you are bumping are being closed, so please stop, and third, THE K4 WILL NEVER STEAM ON THE NS MAINLINE AGAIN sadly.

the 1361 would run on the bald eagle line out of tyrone.
IT WILL NEVER RUN AGAIN, IT IS OVER BUDGET, THE BOILER IS IN POOR SHAPE,It will basically be better to take the whistle,Bell, and cab, and put them on a new boiler and a new wheelframe.

what part of no do you understand.dp,she has been fired up in the past,so has the 4501,611 and 1218,need I go on,the point is,I don't see a reason why these great steam engines should be running only to tie up traffic east, west, north, southbound, only to have NS angry over this and losing money, plus the numerous accidents on their tracks, don't expect that to happen again!

Listen, THey are hauling it back to altoona in flat cars, and it will be in storage there till IF/WHEN they get the money. But like I said noob, it would be better to take the bell, whistle,Cab and headlight and put it on another boiler and new running gear.

I'm starting to become annoyed, for the last time,it takes money to restore a ny type of steam engine to running and/or cosmetic condition,I don't care if you are a railroad museum worker or not, these people just do it because of the love they have for steam and railroading, now I'm done saying what I had to say,and stop posting these useless threads!
