Problems with Graphics

I have been using TRS2004. But I thought that TRS2009 would be way better for graphics. When I transfered my old layouts to TS2009, they ran A LOT more sluggish than they were running in TRS2004. Is there a way to fix this? I tried doing the compatibility mode thing and it didn't affect it. It was just as sluggish but it looked like crap. Is there some setting that I haven't seen or something? I also noticed that the program is a lot more sluggish when copying and pasting terrain.

Could this be because I am using the 5m grids?

Hi

Have a look at whether you are running in Direct X mode or Open GL and try the other one. When I first ran 2009 it was in Direct X mode and it was like watching a slide show. Switching to Open GL caused it to run very smoothly with higher frame rates than I was getting in TC3.

wow man, that worked really good. However, its still a little bit more sluggish than TRS2004. The same maps are still slow.

The default draw distances are much greater in TRS2009, so shorten them. Second native mode runs faster in TRS2009. Check what your performance options were in TRS2004.

Third what sort of hardware have you got? TRS2009 is designed for Dual or quad processors, a decent graphics card and 2 gigs of memory. Might be worth checking to see if there is a later driver for your graphics card.

Are you comparing like with like. Most early TRS2004 content has fewer polys and smaller texture files than later items and this will impact performance.

Hi,
Good to hear that you was able to solve the problem.
I've got a kind of related problem, water textures are to be blinking/flickering for me in OpenGL mode, everything is alright in DirectX but as soon as I switch the problem occurs. The exakt water texture doesn't seem to matter and it's gett worse if you select more water movement.

I'm running TS2009 SP1
Gfx: ATI 3870X2 with up to date drivers.
CPU: Intel E6600
RAM: 2GB Corsair 6400

I think I've had the same problem before in TS2006 but changed to DirectX mode. The Problem is that the performance in DirectX mode us horrible!

Anyone who have experienced similar problems? Any solution?

Cheers

Worth noting; native mode may display most non-09 compatible trees incorrectly due to the different way it handles some alpha thing thing. Fret no though, there's alot of people working to renew lotsa old stuff. :D So for now I'm contented with compatibility mode with slightly lower settings.

Cheerio,
Nicholas.

Your OpenGL installation may not be up to date, try downloading and installing current drivers for your graphics card.

Tugs: When making a new route, do not choose the default region; make sure you choose US or UK.

how do you convert your 2006 routes to 2009?

thanks, casey

Casey: Import the route and then fix the errors. Good Luck.
