Problem saving off new surveyer route

I've been running TRS 2006 on Windows XP but have now changed to Vista. 2006 works, but when I finish some surveyor work on a new route, the save process looks fine until I reopen the game and find only the original factory supplied routes have survived.

I've tested the problem numerous times on test routes with no joy. My ultimate desire is to completely populate Northbay County with numerous trains in operation.

I need a solution for saving new routes.
