Problem in TS12

Hi all

I've suddenly come across a new problem in TS12. The game is freezing as soon as I try to go back to a menu. It happens no matter what I do. If I save a session or route it saves ok and then freezes so I am having to escape via task manager everytime. The game saves perfectly so I am not losing any changes I have made so it is more annoying than anything else. If I save during a session and the carry on in that session there is no problem. It only happens when the program is returning to a menu.

This only happened for the first time yesterday and I think the only thing I did for the first time was use the 'Download all' in the update menu.

I am running TS12 with SP1 and hot fixes (Build 57898) and have just done a 2 hour EDR but to no avail.

Any more suggestions please?

Hi Shane

Thanks for the quick response.

I assume I am not the only one then. But I have left it for quite a while and nothing has happened.

Peter

I've also had the issue, so yes you are not the only one.

What seems to happen is that TrainzUtil 'hangs' when committing the asset to the database, which causes the game to freeze.

There is the possibility of external factors here, including antivirus software scanning the files as they are saved. It's a bit strange why it does not happen when saving during the Surveyor session though.

Shane

Don't think it will be antivirus software as I have not changed anything since installing TS12 over a year ago and this suddenly started happening yesterday.
You're correct about Surveyor though, that went back to the main menu no problem. Seems it's just the session menu that freezes.

That can be the case sometimes. If you've installed TS12 Service Pack 1, check my TS12 SP1 Bbgs thread in the TS12 forum.

I have SP1 installed and both hot fixes applied and I have just noticed that it is dependent on the size of the session and that is why it has suddenly started happening. I must have gone over the critical point where it can't cope!!

Don't forget the server had troubles yesterday. I have a feeling that the game is always talking to the Server. shane you might comment on this.

I still think it is the size of the session that is critical here. I have tried other some small sessions and they are saving and and returning to the menu correctly but my large sessions where I am using Brummfondels path control it is still freezing upon exiting the session.

That is correct - there is a constant connection to N3V's servers whilst the game is running.
Shane

Would that imply that it is preferable to turn my connection off before starting Trainz? Or would that just make any delays in talking to the server worse?

(Assuming, of course, that I don't want to do any downloading ingame).
