Practical session starting speeds

When creating sessions for a route, what would be the recommended approach to ensure at the start of a session trains that start on the end of a siding or in a yard/shed don't floor it through the junction at Warp 9? Speed signs tend not to work very well in my experience in this regard when placed just before the point with consists that take up an entire siding as the default speed won't apply until the train passes it, and is well past the turnout it should be going through at a low (and safe!) speed. Setting them mid-train doesn't seem to do much either. Any tips?

Speed signs will work fine if properly placed. Default start speed is 40 mph. If you place a speed sign just in front of the train it will observe a lower speed than 40 immediately the loco reaches it. Trainz doesn't react to speed increases (as in the real world) until the last car passes...
