When you place a Portal in the map,, select the portal and you will see a menu that allows you to set its properties, the name you give it is the name you direct your loco driver to goto

Yes, in the game, when you give the driver his instructions, just tell him which portal to go to.

That`s all you need to do.

Maybe I was a bit short on my answer
the thing is the instructions are quite clear
the port can be set up as follow

1* Do Nothing ( just accept the train and thats it its gone never to return)

2* Return by way of the same port
you can select how long untill it returns

3* Return By a different Port ( named ) {but only 1 option per port}

4* there are allso options to select units by name or type and
ignore others

you can give the driver commands by way of the driver setup or on the fly
but you can not change the way the port is set up from driver.

Hope that is a little more clear

thanks for all your replys but wot i wont to do is have 1 portal then say have a bank of 6 portals so that when the train enters the first portal i can choose which portal it goes to in game. not have to pre choose.

That is what I rhought. I would like that also.
it would be great if another option would be to have exit portals be random. Why? Why not?;)

But thats what we have been telling you
you can set this up to run with AI or you can do it in driver yourself

if your input port is called 1
and the you have 6 out put ports 2/3/4/5/6/7

the when your train comes out of the port, select it and just say drive to port ( number of port ypu whant it to go to)

It will got there, providing you track and signals allow

but the ports can only be set up in servyor not changed while you are in Driver, if all six out ports are set up to give port 1 the destination address your train would run a neverending circle when it comes out of 1 you send it to 2 then after the preset time would come out 1 again and then you could send it to say 5 and so on

On one of my small routes I use the ports to establish my auto passanger traffic leaving me free to oplay with the freight lines
So I have set up 6 different pass/units, they come out onto the track at one end, pass through the route stopping at the stations on route and exit the other, after my preset time it comes out and does the same, this continues for ever, so I have 4 stations one is 4 track and a regular pass traffic service running with out any intervention from me.
If you still have a problem with this send me a private message with your E-Mail address and I will send you a small map set up with ports and traffic so you can see at first hand how it goes !!

Hi,

The normal Portals can not be configured in Driver on-the-fly, because they are configured to do a certain thing, like consume/produce trains or consume a train then have that train return after a certain amount of time and fully loaded.

But from memory, the IPortals do have options that can be set in Driver on-the-fly so you can change where trains go, example send a train to a IPortal to be sent to someone. Then change the options, send another train to the same IPortal to be sent to a different person.

I will double-check upon this and will post back later... :)

Actually one thing I just thought of, are we talking about TRS2004 or TRS2006 here, the IPortals are only for TRS2006.

Hope this helps... :)

i have all versions of trainz but am using 2006 at the moment, wot i wont to do is set up a bank of portals so i can use them as model railway users call them a fiddle yard so i have 1 portal as a exit portal then i can choose which portal of the bank of 6 say that is vacant. i like to use small layouts as i like to do shunting and that sort of thing, sometimes on the big layouts if i might call them that you seem to be waiting around for ages waiting for something to arrive but some of the layouts are very very good and it is nice just to relaxe and watch the trains and scenery go buy something that i am yet to aspire to but i do try thanks for all your replies, i'll shut up now because i'am starting to ramble on.

No you can not do that with normal portals
when you set up the exit port it can have only 2 options for return

the same one it just left from
or 1 other named port
this can not me changed in Driver

But when you come out of a port you can direct it to any other port on the route

the port can also only be set up for 1 time
If you wish to have different times that your train reappears the you need to use the EMIT TRAIN NOW command
For what you whant to do I think this is your best option,

I also set up layouts like model railways with fiddle yards
But I normaly use extended boards that only contain large yards
my stock is held there untill required
I also incorporate 2 normal basic ports
1 to exit by and one to return by
the return one has no settings atall
the outgoing one takes the units of and into the waiting yards
I use this way so that I can load or unload the wagons so if I load coal in the dock and send it off line when they come back they ate empty ready to load again

as for the iports I have never used them so if the settings can be changed in driver I dont know, I dont think so, but you have me interested so I will have a look tonight

portals

There is a re rail portal that will emit train cars without an engine/loco this is good when you just want to shunt cars around. There is a portal timetable that will allow you to set the time a train is emitted and you can put as many trains as you like, each train can have a difference driver, this is very good when you have 10 trains coming out of a portal(s) you don't have 10 Alastair's on your screen. I will look the kuid Numbers and post back.

In order to select portals on the fly in Driver, there would have to be a complex interlocking of double slip switches in front of your bank of input portals...then you could dirrect them anywhere.

As to multiple Alistair's drivers, I believe only one of the same driver can be displayed per route.

the kuid #s are: Rerail Portal is by Maggs 2:116387:5:1
Rerail Portal Basic by Maggs 2:116387:6:1
Portal Timetable Rule 2:61392:2002:1
When on the Marias Pass Grain Run there are trains coming from the portals and each one has a Kenneth driven the trains about 10 of them. Portal Timetable laminate that.

I used "Iportal Tunnel" and it worked great...I sent a train from one of my other routes into the tunnel, and then I closed that route. When I opened up my "New Route", one minute later the same train from the previous route, now emerged from the new route "Iportal".

This means that I can now divide my Massive PRR Horseshoe Curve DEM route into many, many seperate routes...and for example: Send trains up the East Slope into the Tunnehill Tunnels...close that route...and open up the West Slope route and the same train now emerges from the West Slope-Galitzin Tunnels.

IM me if you need information how to do this: Iportal thing
