For some people it is the romance of steam, for others its the power of the diesel and others prefer the grace of electric motive power. Which is your personal favourite?

Diesel I suppose, remembering those huge old smoke belchers passing me by near Wall Rope Works in Jersey!

Here we go again!

It comes down between Diesel and Steam.
I love the present diesel stuff until around the 1980's or so.

Steam is my true favorite. Always loved British steam and a bit of American steam. I mean that was the first true power of the railroads! Steam power, its a very different experience stepping up near a steam loco then a diesel loco, much more powerful one too.

Cheers,
Adam

Steam, diesels and electrics (but only the really old clunkers. Early diesels and electrics had some bizarrely interesting shapes).

This poll only allows one choice...?

I put diesel locos first but, particularly in retrospect, some first gen British DMU's and DEMU's were quite rateable as indeed were some of the early AC electric locomotives. Even a Class 156 Sprinter under power with the distinctive Cummins engine hammering away has an appeal...

Ah then Tony, scope for another poll whether users prefer heritage or modern traction!

With me,It's not the trains(z) at all. I like doing the scenery. All the possibilities are endless so I usually end up doing all the prettys before even running a train. Maybe i'm an oddball (YEAH)

Steam Makes Pollution, Diesel makes Pollution, Electric Is good

Electric pollutes too, it's just that it's emitted at a power station, not at the train. In fact, because of inefficiencies in generating electricity, there is a good chance electric is the most polluting of all.

I opted for diesel, only because working with catenary is a nightmare in Trainz.

Diesel and Heavy (Third) Rail, that's what is in my area except the Light Rail in NJ.
I couldn't vote because of the one choice limitation.:(

I'm too young to remember steam but I have seen some excursion real steam trains in California and Arizona. They do seem cool but they look like gross polluters in this day and time; however no pollution from Trainz. :)

Cheers

As I figured, steam seems to be the top choice here; I'd wager it's probably because Trainz is a lovely little piece of software that lets us bring steam back to life in our own little way, and thus tends to draw in plenty of steam lovers!

I am a steam nut myself, by the way. Love seeing UP 844 and the Challenger come through town multiple times every summer.

Correct Terminology

8) The word Diesel, as in engines, fuel, etc, is the last name of the inventor, Rudy Diesel.

The locomotives I grew up watching therefore, are "Diesel-electric," because of the combination of...

Steam, of course: I love them all, from Big Boys to 0-2-0 shunters ;)

I also find them much more enjoyable in Cab Mode than electrics (2nd choice) or Diesels (3rd place).
