Please Help Me

I've been a big Trainz fan for awhile now but never had the right computer to run it. I finally just got a new computer from Dell (one that is supposed to be great with handling big computer games). Most of it ran well, the only flaw was that it would go to a black screen in middle of gameplay, and come back and the screen would be about 1/4 of the size it should normally be. If i hit the windows button to go back to the desktop then click back on trainz it opens in regular view. I'm guessing I also need to download "patches" since I just installed the game today. How do you go about downloading the patches? whats the process?

I appreciate any help!

Which version have you just installed, the build number will be bottom left after you open trainz.

Ahh

I have had that problem with TRS 2010 and my computer works just fine, try changing the screen resolution in the options panel.

Ensure that the screen resolution in Trainz matches that of your system. If they are different, you'll get this.

If you can't match the resolution, edit your Trainzoptions.txt file.

You will need to put in -width= and -height= to match the correct resolution to pick in the options screen.

It'll tell you if your build is out-of-date. Alternatively, you can just check. New patches will be advertised in the Auran Announcements forum at the top of the home screen.

Be aware, however, that each new patch introduces new bugs as well as fixes old ones. SP3 and the hotfix introduce what I consider unacceptable ones into Surveyor. YMMV.

When I open trainz the number in the bottom corner is Build 42203. How do you know if you need to download patches?

See this thread for a link to the Service Packs page for TS2010, plus instructions: http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=66052. ;)

On the "Service Packs" page, you need to select the "42203 to 44088" option (unless you want to play with the multiplayer beta). ;)

As for knowing what the latest build is, perhaps watching these forums is an idea. ;)

Regards.

I would save it to your computer, say, in your Documents folder. ;)

After you have it saved, follow the instructions in the thread that I linked to in my above post. ;)

Please note that the patch will probably take a couple of hours, and it might appear to be stalled in the middle of patching, when in reality it is still actively patching. Make sure that you follow the instructions in that thread carefully. ;)

Regards.

ummmm

I have to be comming off like an idiot but I downloaded the patch from that list based off of the build that I have. I saved it in files, disconnected from the internet etc... but when I go to run it I get a pop up thats a Trainz Patcher...it says:

Unable to determine Trainz installation path. Requesting user to specify installation location.

I can't find trainz or anything when searching thru the files so when i "x" out i get the following message in the Trainz Patcher pop up.

Unable to determine installation location. Aborted patching at user's request.
No valid patch operation was specified. Patching aborted.

Suggestions?

Try running the patch as an administrator (right-click it, and select "Run as administrator").

Although I am not sure, is TS2010 located in C:\Program Files\Auran\TS2010?

Regards.

I had it installed on the computer but never registered it. I just got done registering it etc... But when I still try to run the patch I get that Trainz Patch finder pop up and it can't locate it...any ideas? Should I click on the patch (from the list you gave me) and then click "run" instead of "save"? Or what do you suggest?

Running it from the download dialog should not be any different from running it out of your Documents folder.

Perhaps you could save it to your TS2010 installation folder (find a shortcut icon for TS2010, e. g. in the Start menu, right click it, and select "Open File Location" to access your installation folder), and then try it.

Also, did you try running the patch as an administrator? Make sure that you follow Zec's instructions in that thread that I linked to above. ;)

I'm having no luck at all, starting to feel like a complete idiot now. I download the service pack, turn off the internet, unable security. But everytime I try and run the patch (both as or not as an adminstratior) but I just get that pop up Trainz patch finder and tells me to locate trainz installation path. I can't locate trainz when searching (it wont show that format or something). so frustrated right now I have no idea what I'm doing wrong!

Is Trainz located in C:\Program Files\Auran\TS2010, C:\Program Files\N3V Games\TS2010, or C:\Program Files\TS2010?

Try telling it to look in those areas.

Or, do what I said to access the TS2010 installation folder (by right-clicking the shortcut, etc.--see my above post), go up one folder (out of the "bin" folder), left click in the address bar at the top of the window for the installation folder (the one that will likely contain "Program Files > <insert whatever here> > TS2010" or something similar), and tell the patcher what you see in the address bar (possibly surronding it with quotation marks when you do so ).

Regards.
