Perplexing problem with TRS/TR installation

When I purchased TRS2006, I kept TRS2004 for a time before deleting it. Likewise, when I got TS2009 I left TRS2006 installed for the time being with the view to deleting it later when TS2009 had proved itself.

Anyway, having got TS2009 somewhat late in the day TRS2006 was still installed (along with TS2009) when I installed TS2010 - then, a short time later, I installed Murchison 2 as an addon to TS2010.

Now, in order to recover disk space as well as the fact that I just don't use it anymore, I want to remove TRS2006 - but therein lies a problem. The add/remove program panel shows TRS2006 as being installed (and therefore available to be removed) but neither TS2009 or TS2010 is shown as being installed. On the other hand, Murchsion 2 (sic) is shown as being installed although I did not install it as a stand-alone program.

I am loath to now remove TRS2006 in case, somehow (bearing in mind the opaque intracacies of Windows XP Pro), I also zap TS2009 and/or TS2010.

I have run registry mechanic and compacted the registry to no avail.

I am left with the only safe option being to (laboriously) delete all custom content from within TRS2006 (and leave it installed). I have backups, but can't bear to think of the time and effort required to reinstall TS2009/TS2010 and Murchison 2 should dear old XP decide to please itself and zap everything when directed to remove TRS2006.

Perhaps, another safe option is to simply delete the TRS2006 /local and /custom directories and all sub-directories in Windows Explorer (seeing that I will not be running TRS2006 again) and recover the disk space that way.

I can't imagine that this scenario is replicated by anyone listening but I would appreciate any advice that geekdom has to offer.

My guess is, uninstalling TRS06 will only remove it alone without touching TS09. Having said that, if it is more disk space only you require, why not move most if not all of TRS06 onto one or two DVDs if you have a CD/DVD burner in your PC?

This way it is easy to still access your custom content from your copied DVD(s) and at the same time you have more space on your hard disk.

But than again, with the prices of hard disks being so low now, it would be easy to install another hard disk in your PC or use one as an add on drive either with a hard disk cradle or with a USB enclosure case.

Yep, best strategy I agree.

One of the new super-capacity hard disks appeals except that I have yet to successfully clone a disk.

I am planning to rebuild my Trainz PC antirely later this year anyway, so reinstalling TS2009/TS2010/Murchison 2 is on the cards anyway - so, holding off 'til then makes sense.

The 'disappeared' Trainz installations in the add/remove dialogue is odd though.

Thanks for your reply.
