Perhaps I need to take a break...

What I do when I get annoyed or frustrated with people on here... I may not show it but I do, rather than explode I fire up Doom or Unreal and go kill a few monsters, usually does the trick. ;) Works for problems with Trainz as well.

Shane,

Being told that our hard work is nothing but words out by fan bois, shills, and puppets hurts no matter how they say it! With the stress we all felt over the past month here, I don't blame you at all for feeling this way. This is no weakness or signs of disability. It's a sign that you need to sit back and relax on that virtual beach somewhere, or go to the real one if you can now that it's summer, and enjoy the hobby for you by you, after all it is supposed to be a hobby which means it IS supposed to be fun.

Like Malc I go off and shoot critters which I put specific names on... In my case its enemy soldiers in Arma3 and I've become a pretty good marksman I must say. :)

I think Shane that John is emphasising a goodly point like others.
I ahe a great life of activity inn the community and my job. Influenced many people in my voluntary work and often bump into them as much of it was done in a uniformed youth organisation until we got done in by local political nasties. A lifetime of giving and helping done in and left me nowhere and this was followed by health issues that often make inroads into my daily life. Fortunately i do get out but at other times stuck in hence finding Trainz was a great find and kept the grey cells challenged! Very often when we get very involved in something it becomes so much part of our lives and when it is challenged or prodded becomes more of a difficulty. In the project I am presently working (very slowly on!) for across the Irish Sea it has been a challenge and so easy to throw in the towel as i don't live there but i did fly over for several days from Scotland a while back to get more local notes and pictures than Google earth. Not many would go to another country to check our railways for a Trainz build!

What I suddenly realised was that due to health issues I get putting off going for breaks for far too long so now come Hell or high water I am going to get back over the Irish Sea to suss out a couple of things for my train build. So a short break over there and Trainz will still be in my brain cells. whether I get tired or not! Even in all the deep help i gave in a challenging district to youngsters and their families there were always things that occasionally turned up that frustrated or annoyed and throwing in the towel was not going to be included. My family the Howies have a tall memorial plinth on off the edge of a country road south of Glasgow here for what they did towards the end of the 17th century here in the spiritual side of Scotland with the Covenanters. That inspires me and if they could cope I dashed well intend to!! You stick in there and try and get away even for a short time and although you have no ancient monument to pup you up (!) but do have a legion of people here who value you.

I need to, but the forum seems like a addiction to me.

Do you know of any antidotes to it?

Shane
Euphod once said that he had many dozens of UN on the forum, and that he could not stay off the forum, ever ... he hasn't been back on the forum since, he said about T:ANE: "Yeah. Well good luck with that" !

I've been taking a break from Trainz and only skimming the forum for the Summer months because I have been lucky enough to have a small(ish) G Scale garden railway and some volunteers that are helping extend and improve the line so we have a sociable day once a week in the good weather and just do a bit of this and that. For you maybe it would be good if you could find something local on the model railway front and to be able to attend club nights every now and then. I don't know if this sort of thing appeals or how practical it is for you. Of course if you are in striking distance of the Cambridgeshire Fenlands we could always fit in another member to our exclusive garden railway club !

As a completely different alternative 'occupation' would you want to volunteer as a trainer for some of the local computer courses for new starters (mostly older people who have never used a PC) ? Around where I live the courses are funded by a body which is part of the council structure. Laptops and a wireless network are provided and paid for by the 'Council' but the trainers are volunteers.

Just a couple of ideas for getting over forum addiction, of course you could always use the patches (available on eBay for £25 each :):):o:p).

Thankyou for the responses - it's definitely made me laugh.

Meanwhile, I'm also interested to hear what people feel is the best CMS (content management system) for a non-blog website that I can run on my hosting account.

Hi Shane, I've only just seen this thread. As one of the most decent and helpful guys on these forums, I'm sorry to hear you've had a few problems. But as an Aspie myself, I understand how things can sometimes wear you down. A break to recharge the batteries is a good idea, then you'll come back refreshed and hungry for new Trainz experiences. I'm considering the same for myself, if and when I can get my new route uploaded. I've grown increasingly frustrated with 'fixing' rather than 'creating' and also the negative vibe around Trainz at the moment. I'm sure I'll return once I get fired up with a new venture or project and I reckon you will too!
