Perhaps I need to take a break...

See you when you feel like diving in again, it won't be long, it's an addiction without a cure. And as a famous Bernard once said about irregular English verbs: "I have an independent mind, you are an eccentric, he is round the twist."

Thankyou for the responses so far. I'm currently responding to multiple posts at once on this thread as I'm responding less at the moment (partly due to my break, and partly due to having to sort other projects and games out).

In order:

I have not read every single post in this thread Shane but it's clear that you have support and respect from the community . From time to time there are situations that stress us all and the best advice that I ever heard given when this is the case is to "Take a walk round the Bar Walls" (old local saying in York) but to put it another way - take a break, chill out, forget whatever is stressing you and come back refreshed. I'm convinced that advice has saved a few peoples sanity.

Chris

Thankyou for your response Chris. I'm feeling a bit more refreshed at the moment although I'm hoping that those who stressed me out in the first place don't end up doing so again.

By making yourself more visible by posting more, you are bound to attract criticism - deserved or otherwise. We exist in different time zones, with different expectations and various mental states.

In another, totally unrelated, forum that I sometimes visit. There is a special and well advertised section that is intended for "noobs" to ask questions. Flaming or derogatory comments are specifically forbidden and well policed in that section. There is a CoC for the whole forum but more rigorously applied for the noob section. It works.

Shane,
It seems to me that you are the one person who will nearly always answer the "noob" questions when many of us, including me, are rather sick of giving the same answers. Maybe N3V should create such a special noob section and give you primary responsibility for it in an honorary role.

Thankyou for your response Paul. I was wondering about some form of newbie forum but I'm not sure if N3V would agree on that one - saying that, there's no harm in asking.

For Trainz A New Era users at least, my basics guide on my tutorial website is still going strong and I'm hoping to get some more added to it pending the outcome of Hotfix 2 and Service Pack 1.

See you when you feel like diving in again, it won't be long, it's an addiction without a cure. And as a famous Bernard once said about irregular English verbs: "I have an independent mind, you are an eccentric, he is round the twist."

Thankyou for your post martinvk. The Trainz addiction is kind of like caffeine I'd say.

Shane, you've been a light at the end of the tunnel for many people here on the forum and I mean that in a positive way. Don't let the 5-10% of the idiots spoil it for you. Try to see past them and look for those of us who appreciate all you have done for the community. If you must take a break hurry back. Thanks for all you have done.

Shane,

I think a break will do you some good, because you are never taking time for yourself with all the support you give. Maybe a vacation is in order. Take time to clear your mind, do things that might be on hold until you had the time... Just remember, we all greatly appreciate your help. :)

Paul

Apologies for the late response - I've had a lot happening over the last day or two.

In response:

Very correct shane. It IS like Trainz is the coffee. Barey any way to get away from it for too long!

That's true Zeldaboy14 (and thankyou for your response as well).

Sounds interesting there Cascade (and thankyou for your post). If I get chance I will have a look at the video.

Ignore them Shane, most of us do :).

Chris

I know what you mean there Chris. I'm doing my best to ignore the biggest problem users at the moment (and thankyou for your post)

Thankyou for your comment stouthm. It can be difficult to not let the 5-10% get me down sometimes though.

Thankyou for your comment Paul. I probably will need some form of vacation at some point.

The game should come with a warning label: "Caution, Highly Addictive ! Once you play, your entire life will be consumed in Trainz ! Your night time (and daytime) dreams will be in surveyor laying track, and driving in Trainz, and you will no longer have any pleasent dreams of being on a sunny vacation beach in the Carribean, Your family will be having fun at the Casino, but you will be down at the railtard (where you purposely booked your 3rd rate motel room) in Las Vegas, your wife will leave you, or go on vacation without you, and you will not even miss her for 3 months, the kids will be left unattended in the playpen crying, and you won't even hear them, the dogs water bowl will go dry for 3 days straight, your school grades will plummet and you will get kicked out of college, you will get fired from your job for not showing up for work and callling out sick (when you are not even sick at all), your neighbors will hate you, and will call the cops on you for (multiple) excessive noise complaint(s), as they will think that a train station has moved in right next door to them, you will sit in a chair for 18 hours straight, and get carpal tunnel syndrome, you will sit in front of a blinding PC monitor so long that you will go out and buy "Blue Blocker" gold tinted oudoor sunglasses, and will instead wear them indoors while playing with Trainz, Do not use medications, nor drink alcoholic beverages while operating Trainz (as you will most likely spill your drink, and forget to take your medication), If you are pregnant, do not smoke while playing Trainz, as your ciggarette will totaly ash, and you will have wasted your money on cigarettes, and your baby will grow up to be a RR engineer, and his first words instead of being: "Da Da", will be: "Wooo Wooo", do not cook or barbeque while operating Trainz, unless you really like totally incinerated burnt up foodz, everyone you know will look at you in wonder if you are crazy, when you say outloud: "WoW ... That beautiful sunset sky looks just like Pomme13 ! If you can not afford to buy Trainz, DLC content, or a 1 year FCT (costs @ 0.06 cents per day), N3V may be able to help you, by once again having their "Sooper Dooper 75% Off Sale" on TS12" !

You can't leave Shane ... You are one of the top 5

Thankyou for your comments Cascade. That post is interesting reading.

But other than that, it's a great hobby.

I agree with that martinvk (and thankyou for your posts).

Then I guess a group a Trainzers should get together and try to create some sort of 'rehab' to break us of this addiction.

Thankyou for your post jordon412. I'm not aware of any current rehab but will be interested if someone comes up with one.

Seems everyone is sick and tired of the negative plicks on the Forum, bashing community members, posting complaints, and bashing N3V ... If you don't like Trainz ... Stop playing it ... and go to the "Other" Forum, if you don't like the N3V forum, or the community members here.

RGCX said it that the Forum is like a war zone ... others have said similar

Remember the Forum was cut off for 72 hours, because of all the bashing going on, the unbelievable bad manners, and the deplorable bad attitudes on the forum lately ... and it could be cut-off permanently ... all because of the plicks.

I know what you mean there Cascade. Hopefully those responsible for the nasty comments towards N3V have a long hard read of the thread I linked to.

Shane

Shane, break. Get to it. Like now... You deserve it man. Not much else to say than to just pack up and leave for a little bit. You've done good for the community with your forum and your help threads, and much more. Hope to see you around soon. :) if you'd like to talk at all you can PM me here or on trainz.net

Thankyou bentrain14. After another disastrous thread today (link is just above) I'm seriously losing it lately so some time away may help me out.

/ moderator head on
Remember the Forum was cut off for 72 hours
The lockdown text on the forum announced 48 hours, in reality it was down for around 24 hours.
Stick to the facts, Cascade, as I am getting strong hints from various people you are just trying to start a fight.

Go! Now!

Edit: also feel free to call me Ben. I know what you mean Shane. Start out by logging off. Try to resist the posting urge. It's ok to peek in from time to time, but resist that urge to post or comment. A lot of these threads lately, the way people are talking just makes it too easy to resist posting.
