Performance & Vista

G'day all,

Could anyone provide feedback on TRS06 performance from a P5Q-Pro Motherbaord, with an Intel E8400 CPU (3.0Ghz) & 4 gig RAM with a 7300 Graphics card running Vista.

I'm looking at upgrading the Graphics card in the next few weeks so any suggestions there would be appreciated.

Thanks...

I don't know too much about the video card, but I think the 7300 series are the slower cards. The 9800s are the higher end now. If anything this will be your weakest link on the system.

I'm running Vista 64-bit Ultimate with an Intel Quadcore 2.5Ghz, 4GB RAM, the EVGA 8800GTS 640MB on an EVGA m/bo. TRS2006 runs quite nicely without anything more than the normal hiccups once in awhile.

I would definitely recommend you take a look at the specs on tom's hardware. I can't remember the link, but JohnWhelan links to it quite a lot.

Otherwise, go for an 8800 series card. The 9500s or below are worse performance than the 8800GT, but similar in price. If you want really high end, look for a 9800GTX, but wait for a while before buying it, as nVidia are doing a lot of work with their Physix eingine and OpenGL3, which should be in the cards soon.

Thanks guys, most helpful.

Nvidia seems to be the way I'll go and for about AU$400 I can pick up a nice card based on your recommendations.

cheers & thanks

The e8400 is a very good prosessor with a 8800 that i have and 8 gig of ram is very good except for on TC3 on the S&C i still get 20 fps or lower on it.
Im sure other routes play fine atm i have 2009 installed.

If you are really after a top end single slot video card, (not SLI or CrossFireX) then the GeForce 280GTX currently holds top slot, then followed by the GF 260GTX. Be prepared to pay a bit of a premium for these top end cards.
Other cards that come close to these two performance wise, particularly at 1280 x 1024 resolution are the ATI Radeon 4870 (2048) & the GeForce 9800GTX.
The ATI Radeon 4870 is somewhere between $70 - $130 US (approx) cheaper than the Nvidia cards.
I've personally got the GeForce 9800GXT and I'm very happy with it. (it's not top dog anymore though)... If your budgets lower, most of the Nvidia's 8800 & 8600 series should do the job!!!
Cheers, Mac...

If you're on a budget, you can get some very good deals now on GeForce 9800 GT's. $130 US plus shipping or so. VERY good performance (not top of the line, but not over $400 either), probably the best bang for your buck at the moment.
