Peppercorn A1.

I'm typically not really into British rail. But watching Jeremy Clarkson shoveling coal into one of these from London to Edinburgh has got me a little, interested. However I've yet to find one. Pointers?

Cheerio,
Nicholas.

I think I heard talk of LieLestosBrat dong one. He's working on the Peppercorn A2 at the moment, (well, that's the nearest thing to it he's being doing, but as far as I know it's not a high priority), and I believe some people suggested him using that mesh to create the A1 Peppercorn.
Not certain, but pretty sure.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I've had a look at Paul's shop (I've done so many times in the past but stuck to US trains mostly) and while he has many excellent models and even the Tornado itself, it just does not cut it as payware quality. I'm absolutely sorry.

In the meantime, those interested in Tornado can have a look here. It's the only steam locomotive I know of in the contemporary era that's built from scratch (using 19 years and £3 million in the process). Cool.

Cheerio,
Nicholas.

That may be true, but the Peppercorn built by the A1 Trust is on a much larger scale of much greater complexity. It is in all it's rights one of the greatest pieces of British engineering in the 21st century. ;)

I made Tornado for Trainz at the SI3D fourms. The pictures are here:

http://si3d.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=enginerollstockfan&action=display&thread=707&page=6

The pictures for him are on pages through 6-9. Be sure to check out my other projects there as well. When it's finished, it will be released on my Trainz Thomas site called SodorRailroadingBuilders.

Paulz Trainz A1 Tornado is quite good, if you are looking for Tornado it's about the only decent one you can find at the moment and, indeed, it's better than doing without one!

I made a Peppercorn A1 on the last two pages, and from that model I'll do a V2 of Tornado.

Talking of Jeremy Clarkson and Tornado, when Tornado was doing the race against James May and Richard Hammond, it stopped off at Grantham. I was stood on the platform with all the other railway enthusiasts when it arrived. What I hadn't known, was that Clarkson was on the other side of the engine, and there was a BBC helicopter flying overhead. When I got to my grandparents' house, they told me that there was a BBC helicopter over the area. I didn't believe it at first, but when Tornado was on Top Gear last year, we saw it in Grantham from the air! I said immediately "Holy cow! We were in the same place as Jeremy Clarkson!" I couldn't get over that fact!

How you can put Peppercorn and one of the greatest pieces of British engineering in the 21st century. In the same sentence, i don't know. :hehe:

Come to think of it LNER, Peppercorn and greatest pieces of british engineering. Should not be in the same paragraph. :D :D

For a start, the boiler I believe, isn't British! I believe it is german, because we [in this country] didn't and still don't have any facilities to design or build a bolier of this scale.

I don't know why you are telling me, i never made the original statement. ;)

I never mention the phrase London & * * *, unless really necessary. :hehe:

To me the whole "Tornado" thing is a facile exercise.

I think you'll find the boiler was designed in Britain, as it is made to the original British design used by Peppercorn, but it was built in Germany, due to the governments lack of investment in 'Proper Jobs' in this country.

And if it's "scale" you want, check out the size & power output of the boilers that 'http://www.babcock-wanson.co.uk/' (a BRITISH company) build. ;)

Alright, both of you, the Late & Never Early and Gresley Was Right!:p fans, back in your corners!

Don't forget the Muddle & Get Nowhere also never had a decent express loco, nor the Sabotarged and Defeated!

I think the best example of large express passenger loco was this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LMS_Coronation_Class

As to paulztrainz, I would rather buy a 4mm scale OO gauge model than one of Barn's efforts. When his work improves to a point on par with LMS_man's or Paul Hobb's models (or a similar level) then I'll think about it.
