PCI-E 1.0 or 2.0 ?

Hello,

I just noticed that my computer does not support PCI-E 2.0 . . . my bad for getting one that does not support 2.0 ! One thing I overlooked.

My question is this. My video card supports 2.0.
Is there a great difference in Trainz video performance between 1.0 and 2.0?

I'm sure its not cutting the video card performance in half . . . :hehe:

Am I looking at upgrading the motherboard real soon ???

Can someone in the know about this subject chime in.

Thanks

Thanks for the info.

2.0 is basically DOUBLE the data transfer rate . . . looks I'll upgrading my motherboard in short order.

An oversight that might cost me $150 to $200. :'(

The data transfer speed isn't the only factor. The computational power of the graphics chip seems to be the most important factor but I'm no expert on this subject and I don't know how all the various factors combine. So the Tom's Hardware Guide list is the only way I know for a non-expert like me to quickly assess the relative overall performances of various video boards when running 3D games and simulations.

I just upgraded 1 week ago from a 7900GS to a 9800GT,I asked the very same question to the computer shop I bought it from.My motherboard doesn't say anything about PCI X 2.0,but the card is PCI X 2.0,works just fine, double the frame rate of the 7900GS.I will be upgrading the MB that supports PCI X 2.0 in the next few weeks. You should be ok if you have a PCI X (x16).Picked 4 gig DDR2 800mhz DC memory for 32 pounds (Geil),Grand theft auto IV runs very nice:)

tads,

I'm going to install my new video card first without the motherboard upgrade to see how she runs. I'm sure I'll upgrade soon but if I can put it off till next year it would ease the hit on my coins in my pocket . . . with X-Mas and all.

I just ordered a Nvidia 1GB 280 board from Tiger Direct . . . since they dropped the price by $100. ($349 after rebate) MUCH better than $449 !

I understand that 2.0 boards are supposed to be all compatible running in 1.0-X16 slots.

Let us know what the increase in FPS is, if any, after upgrading from 1.0 to 2.0. I'm sure many of us here would be interested to know, specially me.

Thanks
